Vehicle security system question

I was looking at a 03 SE today at a local dealership in Raleigh, NC today. I noticed that they had a dealer Anti-theft system installed on all of their Maximas. I read that the Maximas had a Vehicle security system already installed. What exactly does it do? I guess the one that the dealer is installing is better?? It was a $499 option. I just wanted to know what the stock alarm did before I talk with them to find out what the new alarm is.

I also looked at the other cars on the lot, all of them had they extra alarm installed on them to.

Thanks,

Tater

i would advise you to try and find a car without this $499 option because with this amount you can buy a REAAAAAALLY nice aftermarket alarm system that INCLUDES a starter and most important of all an LCD pager! this means your can monitor the condition of your car at all times. if the alarm goes off, you will be notified by the pager by vibration, beeping, etc.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I will have to check out some other dealers because every car they have has the extra alarm installed. I am not going to pay an additional $499 for a factory installed alarm. Now if they throw it if for free, i'll talk to them.

Not sure why they installed it on all the cars.

Thanks again,

Tater

Are you sure it's not a lojack system for that price?

I did not get a chance to go by the delear today. i sent them an email. Got this response back.

The factory alarm system is standard. What we have added is an
ANTI-THEFT device that acts as a theft deterant. It is a computer
chip; that prevents the vehicle from starting if the chip is not inserted.
Even when a theif takes your keys, unless the chip is inserted under the dash
the vehicle will not start.
Pretty neat idea ( and it gets you a break with most insurance companies)

Wrote back to him saying that I thought $499 was a little high.

don't bother....I had that in my sentra...you can override it with a piece of aluminum foil.....

discovered that one night when I lost the dang chip to stick in the one under the dash...stuck the foil in it and the car cranked right up....

ANY alarm sold by a dealer is a buncha crap in my opinion.....but..... the lojack is sweet

Yeah, but how many thieves are gonna carry a roll of aluminum foil with them? If they ate something like a gyro before stealing your car, you may be outta luck!

Just what the heck is an '03 Maxima, same thing different model year? What, some exciting new colors!?

Anyway, those dealer add-ons are a complete rip-off and 100% margin. Some do those tacky wheel arch guards and door edge guards. Those are like last chance gas--even when you did your homework on the web and got them to sell at $750 below invoice, they go one-up on you by $800 worth of dealer add-ons that cost about $49 if you went to radio shack!

I've been to the dealership in Raleigh. There was one salesman there that wasn't a total slime. The rest of the sales force is right out of central casting; "Hey Fred, we need 10 slimy car sales guys".

If you're really looking to buy a new Nissan in the Central NC area, go to Sanford, Central Carolina Nissan.

If you reach that point, message or email me, and I'll give you the Internet Sales Mgrs name, and my name.

Yeah I had one of those in my 240SX, never used it, out of sight out of mind. You have to physically remove the chip/key thing for it to work. Then one day my car wouldn't start, the little chip/key thing came out over a bump, it was a general PITA. Probably about $10 worth of wire and plastic.

Welcome to the Org! There's a couple of Triangle orgers here.

Myself & Lumbee are in Raleigh, blubyu2k2 and sr2oden are also in the state.
There's been a few trips (albeit I haven't been there) to the Rock and Fayetville drag strips and more coming in the fall. Check the "Washington,DC" regional section of the forum (Geeez can't we get thrown in with SC at least or change the name to mid-atlantic or something?.

Anyway, welcome.

I am very close to you, I live in Youngsville.

I am still looking at the Maximas. My brother has a 96 SE and he loves it. 160,000 + miles and still going strong.

I may have to wait until the first of the year to get one. My current job is not safe. We have had four cut backs. I have been luckly so far. My group was reduced from 130 to 40 this year alone.

I did get another email from the dealer saying that they would trow in alarm in for free. But he still was high on the price.

email from dealer

This very car was here, but was traded to another dealership for a sold unit that we did not have.
Yes, I can locate the vehicle for you and save you a good amount of money in doing so. Equipted as you mentioned below the MSRP is correct at $32,640. I will locate the vehicle
with those options in Polished Titanium and deliver it to you anywhere in North Carolina for 30,981 plus tax, tags, and a $199 title and documentation fee. That means a delivered
vehicle as described for the TOTAL PRICE OF $32,150.43 (and I will throw in the anti theft
device free)
