i have 60,000 k miles on my 95..i get out of the car to run in the house so i tak the keys out..i run back out to start the car and the car doesn't start....does a bad starter always make churning noises??? i get nooo sound whatsoever except for the fuel pump and a clicking sound..i do have an aftermarket alarm with start kill and remote start..but i disarmed it and the car still won't start..i go under teh steering columbn and i pulle the alarm harness..still no start up...ahhhh..does the starter have it's own fuse??? someone help..i doubt it is a bad starter since i've never had probs with it before...
Argh...it seems that 4th gens have major problems with starting. Is your starter engaging at all? If all your hear is "click click click" then your battery is drained or your starter solenoid is shot. If the starter spins but the engine does not start, then it's one of two problems...either the starter teeth are chipped and therefore making only intermittent contact with the engine, or your engine is not getting enough fuel.
The current theory here is that the coolant temp sensor sends a hot reading to the ECU, which cuts fuel for a warm start, when in fact it is cold enough to warrant fuel mapping for a cold start (i.e. fast idle, etc...). There is no fix for this problem, as it's only a theory so far.
Seems kind funny how people here say that Maxima is the most reliable car when it's plainly obvious that most of our vehicles are afflicted by the starting problem (sometimes happens to my 97 too).

NEVERMIND...>>>
the alarm decided to go screwy on my..i disconnected the battery and let it sit for a half hour..then it started back up..i guess the starter kill was engaged for some reason even when i had the alarm disabled!!!it got me frustrated for awhile..
