Test pipe with stock exhaust?

If I put a test pipe on my car, which still has the stock exhaust, is that a pointless mod? I know how much the Cat restricts air but would it even make a difference with all the restriction in the muffler? hhhmm..
Probably just a quick way to trip my "check engine soon" light huh?!?!

Re: Test pipe with stock exhaust?

hey

i have the same set up as you, testpipe with stock exhaust, and the things i noticed , were lighter throtle response , and the RPMs seem lower when im crusing at 80mph, i didnt lose gas milage, the only thing is more water comes out of your exhaust pipe, because there is no CAT

for a $27.00 upgrade thats a good deal for a test pipe. Id do it with a stock exhaust if your budget is not looking too good.

DJPlayboy find out if the 4th gen cats are the same size as the 5th gen and length, in my opinion it should bolt right on. If not ask Mardigrasmax knows a place that will make you one for about $30.00.

Test pipes are a no no... I used to have one till I got a free flow cat. Just dont get busted with one... You get a really skinny wallet and no ride.

Re: Re: Test pipe with stock exhaust?

Where does everyone live at that has one? I'm in Iowa so I don't know what to do.. I'm getting the CAI from Cattman and I want to change my exhaust a bit to help all around. I'm worried about the smell too.. To the hell with it if I'm gonna loose my car cause of a $30 exhaust mod, that sucks! The only way a piggy could pick up on it is the smell right? (besides the bastard getting on the ground a physicaly looking at it)

The smell you really cant tell, at least my car doesnt eat eggs for breakfast but def loves chevron 92 Octane!!!!

What I would do if Ms. Piggy stopped me to give me a citation I would just shut the car down competely, you cant go wrong there. I have a greddy and it does not sound loud like a mustang.

Ok.. So there are more pro's than con's when it comes to putting a test pipe on with stock exhaust?!?!! I'm this close |-| to buying one online right now, I just don't wanna loose the car!!

1. better performance?
2. Sound difference?
3. Smell, if any?
4. Interior bull*@%#, like the "somethings wrong in there" light?
5. i can't think of anything else..

if you're doing it because it's cheap and you can't do any other mods then don't bother... its one of those mods that will only help you after you've dumped a load of money into all the other popular mods... you won't notice a difference if you are basically stock - save your money.

Ah.. You forgot about breathing. I like to do that. For the 1hp you'll gain leave it on. It's just not worth it.

I was just wondering what you found out. Were there any gains? How many horses? What about torque? Thanx.
