HELP...nonMaxima car Problem
I know that this is off topic, but I'm trying to solve a problem and I know that their are a lot of knowledgeable people here. Here's the deal:
I used to drive a 1990 GMC Jimmy, but she died on the highway in November because she needed a new fuel pump. In the meantime I bought my Maxima and the Jimmy has been sitting on the street and has not been touched. Recently, my dad tried to fix it; the truck is rusted and the fuel lines are in bad shape (which may contribute to the problem I'm trying to solve). So my old man decides to put the old gas from the Jimmy tank into the van; this old gas topped of a half full tank (ie half old and half new). Later, when the van got down to half a tank, it started acting funny; my dad banged on the tank and put more gas in and it ran fine. This ordeal was repeated several times plus he changed the fuel filter. What could be causing this and what do you think the solution is? While my truck sat on the street for 8 months, someone stole the gas cap so there is a good chance the gas from that truck is contaminated. One solution he has considered is to drain the van's tank and fill it up with all new gas.
If anyone has any ideas, please help!!!!

If the van will still run I would put a bottle of line dryer (water remover) into the tank and burn a couple tankfuls of fresh gas through and then chage the fuel filter when everything goes back to normal. Dropping the tank might be a little overkill IMO...and messy and dangerous at that.
