tell me what to do (kind of long)

before i start, i want rational answers not some "id beat the living shizz out of em" sorta thing.

the other night a bunch of my friends went out to rent a movie. seeing as my car was the roomiest we decided to take the maxima. after we rented the movie, a couple of my friends were having a race to get shotgun. they were sprinting towards the maxima and my friend mark hit it pretty bad. mark told me that i should check for dents cause he thought he hit it pretty hard. anyway, we went on home and the next morning i go out and see taht he put 2 very large dents in my car (about 5 inches long - big deep depressions). needless to say, i was quite upset. but now i find myself in a tight situation. mark is my best friend and i dont want to be a total jerk by making him pay for it, but its unfair for me to have to pay for it as well (i am kinda happy though cuase it finally gives me an excuse to go get some door dings taken out ). how should i handle this? im asking for your guys advice as adults, not as car lovers. thanks.

Honestly he should pay for it, but because he's your best friend maybe split it 50-50?

50/50 compromise.

But if he really is that good of a friend and he knows the pride you take in your car he should offer to pay for all of it.

I agree with what the others have said. 50/50 is probably the way to go only because he is one of your best friends. He should volunteer to pay for it all but that can be a lot of money. So yeah, 50/50 is probably best unless you wanna go 25/75 (you being the 25) because then you are still giving him a break (so you look like a nice guy) but then you aren't out as much money.

BTW if it's all on one panel, and granted the paint is okay, it shouldn't be more than $100.

Get the estimate and tell your friend. If he offers to pay for it, split it 50/50 with him. If he b1tches about the cost, get him to pay for it all.

well after some deliberation i talked to my dad about it and a few other people and decided just to talk to him. we agreed that hed pay for it. but i let him back out of it in any way possible, and i think we're still going to be friends the thing i was concerned about most was us splitting (i love my car, but not that much). so it worked out! i'm gonna try to hit up the body shop tommorow for an estimate.

Don't go to a body shop if you have no paint damage!!!!

Look in your yellow pages for Dent Dr. paintless dent removal guys.

They get about 125 bucks/pannel to remove dings.

50/50 is 62.50 per person. Might even be cheaper depending on where you live.

I dont' see why you should have to pay for anything. If he's trully your friend, he should pay for the whole thing. After all, there wasn't a dent there before he hit it, right? 100% him.

What kind of shot gun rules are those? I thought international shotgun rules were as soon as the car is within view, the first person to call shotgun gets it. running to the car just smacks of effort.

oh, and 50/50

When one of my best friends scratched my front lip (while they where driving) talking about ripped half the paint off he offered to pay for it.

I tell that to anyone who drives my car so it just depends on the person

If he is really your best friend, you shouldn't have any problems or awkwardness telling him to pay for it. But thats still mean.. I think you guys should do 50/50.
