SWAT huh? VERY cool! Every kids dream I think! If I ever went full time again I would definately set my sights for SERT (Special Emergency Response Team). I am a CPA full time now though. Got a masters in accounting, planned on getting in with the FBI, did phase II testing and then my wife pulled the plug. I was on the way my friend. Everything I had done in my life was in pursuit of that goal. Problem with the FBI (as I sure you well know) is that it is very likely that you will never return to serve in the are where you are from. Well, for me that means Arizona, Utah, and Idaho. My wife decided that she didn't like that, so I get my law-enforcement fix as a Reserve....it's okay, I will likely make more money in 5 years than I ever would have as an FBISA. Oh well!

yea its fun, but i've been doing it for about 7 years, i think within the year i will resign, its been fun, a lot of great schools, especially the swat round up in orlando, teams from all over the world compete in this compitition, it's one thing when your on the range qualifing, but its totally different when you have maybe two thousand people watching your every move and shot, comparing you to the team that just went before you, man what a rush.
LAPD, Dallas PD, Orange County (Fl) SO, Lakeland PD (Fl), Gwinett County (Ga) Polk County SO (fl) are consistenly good year in and year out. The above teams are usually in the top 10 every year (out of about 85 teams) I'm in the same county as lakeland pd and polk county sheriff.

Are these simulations in tac houses? When you compete as team, do they score the entire team as whole, or sum up individual scores?

part of the competition is shooting 6 inch targets from windows, we shoot live ammo, the whole team is graded (5 guys), the key is speed and accuracy, as well as safety (your team could be disqualified from an individual event if your weapon is not safe, which is last place plus 30 seconds of your original time)events include shooting using a gas mask, rapelling, obstacle course, hostage rescue, etc.

It is your duty to make sure all your papers are in correct order and are up to date. Some officers in traffic unit will recieve specific orders to do a sweep of certain areas, certain criteria of HTA.
Remember this, for ever cop there is a supervisor that may be issuing orders to him/her, so not all cops are power hungry and are **** about things. They are doing their job.
Thanks for the reply Riot^ (funny your a cop and your nick is Riot..hehe)

About the flow of traffic, isn't it safer if everyone follows the flow of traffic rather than someone doing 100km/h while everyone else is doing 130km/h? The slower dude would be a hazard. They should have dynamic speed limits on some sections of the road that have lcd screens which give the new speed limit according the road/weather conditions.

I understand the part about the registration, I just found it weird that they would give tickets because it wasn't signed. A warning would have sufficed.

A warning would be sufficient.. but it's up to the officer.

About the flow of traffic, yes, it would be better to follow the flow, but what if everyone is doing 160km/h, is that a safe flow of traffic? I had a guy I pulled over, he was doing 170, a while ago, at 3am, told me he was going with the flow of traffic
I let the judge decide his penalty.

i was about to work for the police department here in palo alto installing thier equipment but the pay wasn't good enouhg.. i guess i shoulda done it anyways to set up a connection with the police department. (not like i need to though) i heard here in california the CHP released 100 camaros. i've had both good and bad experiences with law enforcers. i respect what you guys do for a living, however i feel sorry for the lack of credit many of you guys lack. i got one question.. lets say someone did something real bad to me and drove away. am i allowed to follow them? (chase em' down) is there a number i can dial to request permission for persuit? i know it's not the best thing to take the law into my own hands but there are always those times when people such as myself would like to play hero. and is there a special police force i can join to chase people down? a department that is driving oriented? i knwo in japan they have a special force that focuses on street racing and high speed chases. if there is such thing in the US would i be allowed to drive my own car? or "customize" a non domestic car for the job?

The problem with this is if you were to get into an accident. Patrol officers are trained to give pursuit, and in some cases trained on when to actually back down and allow the suspect to flee. Highway patrol officers and troopers are trained even more extensively.

Define chase them down. If it constitutes driving after them in a normal legal manner, then I don't see why not. But ALWAYS call the police. If it envolves highspeed chase, or a chase that is even a little dangerous, you are just are criminally responsible for any damage or harm as the guy you are chasing.

Take down the plate, and always call the police. I don't know about USA, but in Toronto you can call OPP or just 911 from any cell phone and they will take over.

DON"T BE A HERO!

Well doing 170km/h at 3AM is different than someone doing 130km/h at like 3PM or so. Also what if someone accelerates to say 160km/h for a short instance to overtake someone? Especially in the Maxima where 160km/h comes out of nowhere when you punch it at 120km/h!

If my math is not fooling me 160 is a little more than 100, or 120.
Yes, it is a ticket. You should not have to overtake someone at that speed, that would mean you are overtaking a vehicle traveling at speeds over 120.
Not an officer's problem the car is fast
But damn true, it punches from 120 to 160.
