I never said "only".

Depending on the width of your wheel and tire, I think the min is 35. The 4th gen stock alloy is 15x6.5 with a 45mm offset, so you can go that far in at least.

so if im getting 17 x 7 with an offset of 40, what tire size do i look for? 235x40x17? is the 40 in 235x40x17 the offset size of the rim? and 17 is the size obviously. how about the 235? how can you know what is the lowest size and highest that fit on the rims?

18 x 7.5 offset of 40?
so its 235x40x18?

thx

Tire manufactures don't recommend 235/45-17 on 17x7. You can use the 5th Gen stock size of 225/50-17 or 215/50-17. Some use 225/45-17, but that's somewhat smaller than the other two. The 5th Gen 17s have 40mm offset I believe.

As for 18, manufacturers don't recommend 235/40-18 on anything narrower than 18x8.

tire rack recommend 235x45x17 if i get 17 x 7
and 235 x40x18 for 18 x 7.5

however u recommend 225x50x17 or 215x50x17,why does tirerack recommend different size, it is because its more expensive so they earn more profit? how does this tire size thing work?
and if i get 18's , according to you, what size do i get?

My "recommendations" are actually just based on what the tire manufactures say. If you go to any of the sites like Michelin or Bridgestone, all they all have the minimum width for 235/45-17 as 7.5. It is physically possible to mount them on narrower tires, but the manufacturer won't take responsibility in that case. I guess Tire Rack is cool with that though.

If you're getting 18x7.5, I guess 225/40-18 would work, but that's just based off of the tire manufacturer info.
