Harlan Shift Light Install...HELP!
Harlan Shift Light Install...HELP!
I tried to install the Harlan Shift Light using MaximaDriver.com instructions. First of all, I did not see a "TAM" on the back of my gauge cluster. I used the green/yellow wire which feeds the signal to the RPM needle.
I was able to connect everything but here is the most wierd thing that happened.
With my shift light connected (tapped into the RPM wire) and it seems to stealing the signal. I set the shift light at 2500 rpms & it would turn on with a little rev, however, the factory tachometer would be DEAD.
If I disconnect the shift light wire, the the tachometer works just fine!! Of course I would want both the factory RPM & my shift light to work at the same time.
Any help would be appreciated.

you need to tap into the ecu line. NOT the gauge line

Funny, I had one harlan working well off the TAM screw but when I connected the second, the tach would go dead. Either one alone worked fine.
I say go for one of the coil packs...

At least I know I'm not the only one. You can either tap a coil, or you can wire in a resistor inline with the Harlan and it might work.

After that incident, I really don't want to mess with the ECU. God forbid, but what is I had accidently cut some wire in there.
Any other options? Can you explan how this coil business would work?
Thanks,
Take off the plastic valve cover like you were going to change your spark plugs. On one of the coilpacks, pull back the wire covering and you should find 2 wires. 1 is black and the other will be with with a red stripe or something similar to that. Splice the white with red stripe wire. Its that easy
