I got really suprised tonight by a sleeper......

Came home from Baltimore and decided to cut through town to see what was happening.

I am driving and I hear the psssssssssssssht of a Blow off valve. I look to my right and see a ......guess what.......are you ready....a fricking Chrysler Lebaron.

You heard me...a Lebaron running boost.

I was really surprised the car was rather quick off the line and spooled quickly. We had a chance to talk and the guy told me he had just finished making some changes and was running 20 lbs of boost.

Would he have beat my Maxima? Off the line, yes, but I would have reeled him in. I do drive an auto with all of the bolt ons.

I did find like five other posts of people who had been surprised by these cars.

Here are some specs:
1985-88 LeBaron GTS & 1985-87 Lancer
2.2 93-100 hp 4cyl; 2.5 96-100 hp/135 torque 4cyl (1988); 2.2 Turbo I 146 hp/170 torque

1988 Lancer Shelby
2.2 Turbo II (174 hp/200 lb-ft) with 5spd only, 2.2 Turbo I (146/170) with 3spd auto only

1989 LeBaron (Highline or Premium) & Lancer (base or ES)
2.5 100 hp 4cyl; 2.5 Turbo I (150/180) with 5spd or 3spd auto

1989 LeBaron GTS & 1989 Lancer Shelby
2.2 Turbo II (174/200) with 5spd only; 2.5 Turbo I (150/180) with 3spd auto only

Word to the wise, don't be surprised!!!

you sure you could have "reeled him in"...20psi is a lot I'm sure he's in the ~200's with all that, I don't see an auto 4g with full bolt-on's(no boost) keeping up with that...

You could very well be right

His car was very quick.

We did have one spirited run to about 45 and he had about three quarters of a car length on me.

I am not a fan of street racing so whether I could catch up is really not important I guess.

I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly this car got up and went.

His car was a toal sleeper which added to the surprise.

It made me really want a turbo!!

I just sold my lebaron GTC, that thing was awesome until the turbo went on it. It was sitting in my driveway since january and finally sold it for $500. Very fun car to drive, new turbo would have cost too much so I moved up into my max.

If it was a boosted Lebaron running 20psi, I don't see how you "reeled" him in. Something just doesn't add up.

You sure it didn't have one of them fake BOV?

You think that thing was quick?? Ever heard of a Dodge Spirit R/T? My friend has one, it's turbo intercooled, over 200hp stock. It will light up the tires through, that's right, through third gear! It's high 5's 0-60. That is the ultimate sleeper, plus it's a 5 speed.

Actually, on Seinfeld, Jon Voight's Lebaron was driven by George until it caught on fire.

"Pop! Pop!" Seinfeld fans know what I'm talking about.

that Spirit R/T had 220hp stock, I-4 turbo. it outperformed the Taurus SHO (DOHC V6 220hp) & Grand Prix (205hp V6turbo) but becuz it was Dodge it wasn't really noticed. Motor Trend liked it, but the chassis was just outdated - & dont foget those turbo minivan/Z28 & K car/Supra vids.

You guys are well aware that there is a HUGE cult following for the chrysler turbo cars of the 80s right? There are guys who have them running 10s. Even an old mid 80s 2.2 turbo minivan that runs 10s. They are like the DSMs of the 80s.
