when u got your car repainted did you notice any blemishes ie, fish eyes and high spots? i went to the body shop today to modify my headlight wiring and to my suprise the paint job was horrible. there were countless blemishes and a huge fish eye on the front bumper as well as a run. they use ppg paint. they've held my car hostage for a month or so already, they have constantly told me that the car would be done "next week" or "check back tomorrow" i was wondeirng how i should approach this? i am moving to so cal on the 19th of this month but also need to work on my car, i need to install my sound system and develope something for the 2k max and 2k2's can anyone please tell me their experiences with new paint?

my car was repainted and i'm very happy with the paint job.

as for the time delay you are having with your car being done, i would be at the shop every day at the time they open just to make sure that they will be working on your car.

 

I've got plenty of blemishes on the car. Considering my circumstance and the cost of my car's overall repair and restoration, I didn't have an option of taking my car elsewhere. You just have to be in their face day in and day out, soon they'll get sick of you and the only way to get rid of you is to finish fixing your car

 

I got the rear end painted after an accident and took them nearly 2wks to fix and paint it. After "using the wrong paint", "painting it the wrong color(green)" I got it back, and the paint is a little for me..

 

mingo...those are typical bodyshop trick. they are acutally waiting for insurance approval on some other bills before they could release the car. so they just let it sit untill they got their money. told them that it has been late, beyond the due date and u need a car.


about the paint, I would recommand spies hecker and that's what my body shop used on my front and rear bumper. I believe those blemish thingy are from the clear coat....you can always ask them to recoat it or sand it down a bit and polish it.

 

they don't seem like they want to do a good job on my car.. when i point out certain blemishes they just say crap like, i'm sorry we can't help you on that one, it's underneath the paint. the onlything that's holding me back is that they are paying for half of my clear 3m bra and installing it for free and they painted the inside of my headlights as well as got me a 2k2 bumper.... they make the bumper thing such a big issue and the headlights.. man i hat themz headlights in the car prior to the accident so the insurance should have covered it regardless. and the 2k2 bumper is pretty much the same price as teh 2k. they wouldn't order me a new set of fogs even tho the orignals are damaged and they didn't worder me the 2k2 grill.. but thanx to larry aka chinaonnitrous1 i got that taken care of. that body shop is wack.

 

Mingo,who is doing the body work/ paint job? I am considering getting the car painted and want to avoid them.

 

I don't think they can do any better. I can't tell you how many times when the weather is good I notice a sweet ride like a 540i or GS400 and then when you catch it at an angle you can see the repaint. It'll match in color but not in texture. Then, when body work gets dinged it's really bad. Looking for good body work is like saying you're looking for a good roofing co. My aunt got an estimate, you folks must be expensive in Cali but it's 12 grand. What's frustrating I guess is no matter who you give the job to they'll be very dishonest about it. 25 year warranty is no good when the dudes wont even be in business 12 months from now.....

 

i got the car done at yeaman auto body 2025 east bayshore road palo alto, ca 94303.

i was originally going to get my car done at cavalino.. they do really really high quality stuff.. the only reason why i didn't go is because they couldn't fit me in their schedule, they said they wouldn't be able to get my car out before september.. but crap what do u kno/? these goons couldn't either.. man.. if i didn't hafta move to la in two weeks things would be alot more different.

 

SE is in the shop right now,

the gxe cost me $2500 with connections (but connections mean you pay less but it takes forever for a "freind" to finish the car)

and the SE is costing me $4000 but with installing and painting the kit plus new front and back bumpers and shaving the trunk, and Ive had this guy paint my car before (hood front bumper and fender) and
he did a great job so I have no doubts my car wont look anything but perfect. plus its a lifetime warrenty on all the work.

bottom line is you get what you pay for,

 

When I got my whole car repainted last year, the car came out without any blemishes. No fish eyes or dirt in the paint, no overspray or runs. The only problems that popped up later were the bumpers started to bubble mildly mostly due to the fiberglass.

It's not that hard for a shop to do a good job, especially if they have your car for a month. Most blemishes can be fixed with a good wetsand/buffing, but it seems like you may have too many problmes for that. And it doesn't really matter what brand paint they use, ppg, spies hecker, dupont, etc. It's all in how they prep, spray, and finish your car.

 

i would love to have my car painted blue but i know it will cost too much. When i graduate and get my big time job, my maxima will be super hooked up if it lasts that long

 

the body shop quote was over 5000.. so.. the previous comment about u get what u pay for isn't true in my case...

thats crazy, Body Pros in Garden grove charges 2500 for a custom paint job! JT auto charges 2000. these are all top quality stores. I got my paint job for 1500$ and no fish eyes. Hopefully they prep the car well, clean, and paint the car in a dustless booth.

 

they just said the dumbest thing today "unfortunately we can not paint in a completely dust free environment because they won't let ups paint in the hospital." and i said "well isn't that what the paint booth you guys have back there is for? i bet they eitehr painted my car out doors or didn't close the gate of the paint booth.. now they're saying "the car will be done no later than tomorrow"

 

is that an insurance quote? if not, go to the guys house right now and smack the **** out of him, because that is alot and would be acceptable if the job was done perfect.

 

insurance.. if it was coming out of my pockets that place woulda had some spontaneous combustion.. today they told me the car will be done tomorrow.. they seriously tell me that everyday. they blaimb it all on me too. they said "you keep makign changes and thats' what causes the delays." the only change i "made" was i wanted a 2k2 bumper isntead of the 2k.. and i told them before i brought the car in so they went ahead and ordered a 2k2 since day one. and now they are blaimbing the whole set back on teh "bumper absorber" being different they make "overhauling a bumper" sound like it's the hardest and most time consuming thing ever when they do that crap day in day out.. i am really close to going postal on those fuggaz.. i'm thinking of contacting the bad buisness beuro

 

yeah thats why, they make their money off the insurance claims.
call your insurance company see what they can do

 

i'm going to call the insurance company tomorrow. see what they say.. i guess that means they're not hooking it up with the clear bra no more either.

shiiiez if i got in an accident next month i'de be.. freagin' this body shop is horrible.

 

Take their *** to small claims court and take picutres of the flaws in the paint. You will get your money back.

 

the problem is that i'm not paying for it, insurance is. i have state farm insurance adn that shop is in the service first program with state farm.

 

So by right, if you complain to the insurance company that the job wasn't done properly, they should send someone out to the shop to see what the hell is going on.

 

did they guarantee that they will restore the vehicle to "pre-accident" condition?? did you go to one of those insurance authorized bodyshop? seems like they really stick to the insurance quote....I have same experience to one of the shop which they stated that the estimate from insurance company will be enough for the repair, which is not ture most of the time b/c they wont know how much it actually costs by just visually exam the vehicle.

are you doing this under your own insurance? I would call the claim team of the insurance company and complain about their quality of work. If this shop is an insurance authorized shop, they can put pressure one them to fix the problem.

 

i just got the car back.. it's not too bad... but there's still some blemishes that they Promise to work out next week. just high spots.. not fish eyes
