Information on the ABS speed sensor?
Information on the ABS speed sensor?
Does anyone have any technical information on the ABS wheel speed sensors? I am designing a device for data acquisition of acceleration information, and I would rather stay away from using an accelerometer.
I was told that the ABS wheel speed sensor might do the trick, but I have been unable to find information on this device. The only information I’ve been able to get is that it is a Hall Effect sensor. That doesn’t help, as there are many different types of Hall Effect sensors.
I’m hoping this sensor will emit a pulse for each complete revolution of the wheel, rather than give varying voltage depending on how fast it is spinning.
Would a vehicle that is not equipped with ABS allow for the mounting of this sensor, or are there special wheel hubs that need to get? I have a '98 SE (for which ABS was an option), but no ABS.
Any help is appreciated...

This much I know from observation--when the relationship between the 4 wheels is messed-up, the ABS lamp stays on (ie getting stuck in the snow and having the wheels spin) and will not turn off until the car gets moving again on dry pavement 20 mph or higher or so. So not only is each wheel being "sensed" there is something computing that data.
Also we were told by 3 dealers in NYS that it's not possible to equip a non-ABS with ABS at any price. Why? I'll never know, because I thought money made the world go 'round.
