Arias or VQ30DET pistons

Hi

I am looking to build my engine soon since my second engine has arrived and wondered if the Arias pistons or VQ30DET pistons are better? I have heard that Arias do not put silicone in their pistons and so tend to be noisier than other pistons.

Also where can I get the VQ30DET pistons? I have heard that JWT might have them. Does anyone else sell these too?

Thanks!

One question for you:

Do you think you might want to lower your compression to less than 9:1? I think that's the ratio for the DET pistons. The pistons from Arias could have a lower ratio, so if you want more boost, it might be the way to go.

Re: One question for you:

You can custom order pistons in almost any compression ratio you want. The issue he is probably concerned with is the silicon content. I "think" high silicon content is okay for na but not as good for boosted applications. Heat resistance thing? I forget.

Some forged pistons are kwown to expand alot when hot so they are "small" when installed. Until they warm up, the will be noisy.

Try to contact Turbo95 mathew. He's running aftermarket pistons.

Run OEM pistons and custom eagle or crower rods. Factory turbo VQ pistons are pretty much as good as you can get without spending alot of $$.

hey Jeff

its Matthel to you, not Matthew! hehe anyways

my Arias pistons are 9:1 compression ratio. I would guess(could be wrong) that the Arias pistons would be lighter then the VQ30DET ones too. Arias pistons might come with better rings also...not sure.

Once you get your pistons you could get the skirts and domes coated.

Hey Matthel, how's your baby running? I may be going to China next month, hope to stop by SF and say hi!

Hey Nigel JE quoted me 795$ for a set of six 8.5:1 pistons with the rings so you might want to talk to them they might be able to cut you a better deal. Just a thought.

I would have thought that lowering the compression would lead to higher boost, but at the same time not really gaining any since it was lowered when you changed compression? So your really just getting a higher PSI number to get almost the same range of gain?

Enlighten the n00b please

lowering your compression doesn't give any hp gain or change in boost levels.. lower compression allows the engine to run hotter without detonation... or going boom

I'm thinking about rebuilding a motor too and lower the compression...Where do you guys that I should get a motor from or what to look for when I get one. I thought about Autogator since i live like an hour or so away from them...
