Whats your favorite intake?
#4
Since you didn't put what year in your profile, I guess I'll go with 4th Gen.
2 wks ago I was in love with my Stillen Intake, ever since yesterday I've been in love with my Injen CAI
Stillen
Pros:
Good pull @ high rpms
V8 muscle car thundering roar sound
Ease of installation (30 mins)
It's Stillen!!!
Cons:
Hot air
Bottom end loss (requires an upper piping, about $60 to get your solve this prob)
V8 muscle car thundering roar sound (It could be loud!)
It's Stillen (price)!!!
Injen
Pros:
Cold Air
No bottom end loss
Sounds better (not as loud)
The cool factor
Ease of installation (2 hrs)
No drilling holes in your fender
Cons:
Water (Rains here 8 months out of the year)
Price
I was told that Pop Charger = Top End, CAI = Bottom End.

You can see the Injen stuff at www.injen.com and the best price going is at http://www.adventon.com/acb/showprod...tGroup_ID=1456 ($218.85- $234 w/shipping) for your 95 SE Polished.
I think there is a group deal starting up though. Check the Group Deal forum.
Then again, maybe you should use a search. A lot of info and pics out there.
Heres mine:

I have also heard that on a launch the air inside the tube creates a ram effect because it doesn't have to go through the filter so it is sucked up faster. But this is just false, I can see where they would THINK that when at a stop, then launching WOT, the air that was already present in the tube would be sucked up immediatly because it was not restricted by a filter as is the incoming air that first has to pass through the filter. Maybe the analogy of putting a filter on the end of a straw would help, fill the straw(this represents the CAI tube) half way with water (representing the air already in the tube), then emerse the end of the straw with a filter in a cup of water(representing outside air), then suck up the water from the cup. They would say that the water present in the straw would immediatly be sucked up while it would take slightly longer to suck any of the water out of the cup up, but this is just not so. The air in the intake will only move as fast as the incoming air from the filter, think about smoking devices.
So what advantage does the frankencar offer, it seems that because it has more tubing, and still resides in the engine bay, that a pop charger would be better?

I like the smoking anology.
From what I've read, a CAI is better than Berk, Stillen, Frankencar, etc because the air coming into the engine is cooler. Cooler air is more O2 rich and (I'm not exactly sure of the physiss, but) cooler air provides better combustion in the engine because going from cold to hot releases more enegry (power).
I have a berk and the filter basically sits on top of the TB. However, this isn't always good. Sometimes it feels like it's trying to take in TOO much air. Plus, when it's really hot outside, the car feels sluggish. I cannot compare it to the stock box in hot temps because I bought the car in the winter.
The pipe on the AEM CAI is not very restrictive.

first, air being sucked into the engine has to go thru much more turns and curves with CAI. this means the tube will slow down the speed of the air due to air friction. The higher the rpm, the higher the speed, and the higer of air friction.
Second, the velocity of the air to the engine is not constant. think of it this way, say you got a really short straw and a really long straw. with the long straw, you first suck the water slowly and suddenly suck it really hard. does the water suddenly go to your mouth a lot? and what happen to the short straw? throtte response?
I'm not saying the CAI is worse than the pop since the cooler air. but think about why the pop still exist in some NA race cars.

What ever you do, do not order from FastLane performance you will not get your intake, but you will get a bunch of bad customer service

I've been browsing a bit on the forums and it seems like a lot of people have CAI's. I've read in numerous posts though that the Stillen Kit makes your Max sound like a V-8. This is a turnoff for me because I like for those Mustang guys out there to think that I'm running a weak V-6 which we all know is not true. For those that have pulled up to a stoplight next to a Stang, you know that you wanna make him think that you got nothing under the hood. That surprised look on their face when you finish beating them is just classic. Thats more or less what I'm aiming at.
As for the Injen CAI discussed in this post, I think I'm leaning more towards it rather than Stillen.

i had the stillen and now have the injen and the stillen is definitely much louder because its closer to you as well, as compared to the injen, which sits all the way up in front behind the radiator.
the stillen is a shorter intake compared to the injen which has piping, so the stillen sucks directly into the throttle body, while the air in the injen cai has to travel a distance when you floor it. thats why the stillen sucks so hard and has a big growl like a v8.

Yea any pop charger or intake with a midpipe will almost undoubtedly be louder than any CAI. The only downside I can see to it is that people dont consider it to be a "real" CAI because it sits behind the radiator. Wrap it with some of that intake stuff to keep the pipe a little cooler and it would probably help quite a bit as well. Just my $0.02
