Getting Desperate, possibly stupid..
Getting Desperate, possibly stupid..
I finally flipped the switch this time.. Walking out of my apartment this morning I see the Max sitting about a hundred yards away, lookin all sexy and shiat.. then as i close in the GOLD
pinstripe comes into view and it pi$$es me off to no return this time.. Its painted on there so i can't just peel it off.. I've been told to buff it, scrape it, paint it, forget about it (which isn't an option, and so on.. So, I'm thinkin. Cover it up with something else (like a black pinstripe, or start buffing. I thought I would ask you guys first. What do you think and what would be the best option??
BTW: I don't want to repaint the whole car just cause of the pinstripe.. But Damn its ugly..

Everyone here can tell me how to bolt on a Turbo, adjust my timing, full exhaust replacement, or strap on a SC and an inter-cooler, but no one knows about a pinstripe

Try laquer thinner; it's usually "hot" enough to remove paint. It will take a lot of scrubbing, you will have to be careful around the clear coat, and you will have to polish and wax afterwards.

Good Idea! I thought about that but didn't know about the clear coat and paint..*** Does anyone object to his idea?? ***

Don't use any chemical that will take it off, because it wil mess up your clear coat. Just take some 1500grit sandpaper, and wet sand it off, then take a high speed buffer, and go over it with a microfinishing copound and some "finesse it". it should be all good then.
The lacquer thinner is only going to work on lacquer and there's little liklelihood that the stripe is lacquer. Any other chemical or solvent that you use that's aggressive enough to remove the stripe is likely to remove the paint under it. Wet sanding sounds like a viable answer but if you're not careful you'll go through the clear coat and it'll mean new paint job time. I would either 1) learn to live with it. I wouldn't put a pin strip on a Maxima but, I personally don't think it's that bad. 2) Have a body shop do it. If they screw up the clear coat, they'll be obligated to fix it. 3) Get with a local pinstriper and see if they can incorporate it into a different stripe that looks custom/more aggresive. I know it sounds hokey at first but people who get crappy tatoos do it. 4) Save the ducats for a new paint job. Just my .02.

IS that "black pin stripe over it" a really stupid idea?
