Knock sensor question

Knock sensor question
My car has been getting terrible gas mileage and has has horrible low end acceleration. I checked the ecu and is was giving me 0304 (Knock sensor). My mechanic was telling me not to buy a knock sensor right away since he claimed that the computer gives knock sensor codes whenever there is a misfire or anything in the engine. He said most of the time the knock sensor code doesnt even mean you need a new knock sensor. Is this true?

how many miles on your max? a bad knock sensor will rob you of power big time.
buy a knew one, install, reset the ecu and take it for a spin and let us know.
did the mechanic actually say your car was misfiring? did you throw any other codes?
IME a knock sensor code means knock sensor is bad.

at the risk of sounding like a moderator, please do a search on Knock Sensor in the 4th gen forums. There have been many, many, many threads on this topic. If the only code you get is 0304, and you reset the ECU and keep getting it...plus your accel. and low end are poor, the KS should be changed. The part goes bad on all 4th gens, but it is not a recall.
