car pings

After reading this thread about driving city speeds in 5th gear:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=155886

I remembered that a week ago, I was going up a driveway around 10mph in 5th gear, gave it some gas (2k rpm), and the engine pinged. So I shifted from 5th to 2nd (I'm pretty good with dbl-clutching now) and no more ping.

I run 91octane here in Los Angeles, California. Just thought it was interesting that it pinged. Can anybody explain why it pinged?

well 5th gear at 10mph is too low of a gear. A vq is a strong engine, but anything that revs too low is "lugging" the engine around.
