I was on my way home this afternoon and saw flashing lights ahead where a cop had pulled over an 18-wheeler. From a distance I couldn't make out the officer's car. As I passed him I was shocked to see it as a F-150 SVT - a lightning. It was painted in standard TX trooper color scheme with a low profile light rack on top. Now you have to watch for trucks as well.

Yeah I've seen those trooper F-150's. They even have stock ones I've seen around here in Midland. Theyt probably have a chip in 'em at least. Hell, our Police department has one.

Funny texas trooper story

I was driving home from dallas to colorado and was on US287 and I got pulled over at night for doing like 75 or something. Well I managed to get off with a warning, and a ways down the road I was wondering what he clocked me at, so I pull out the warning and look through it. I get to the bottom, and there was one of the funniest things I've ever seen......Issued by_____Bacon_____

TX Troopers

I've also seen a RAM on a couple of occasions between Austin and San Antonio.

Louisiana was the worst though... I think that might be unmarked capital of the world. On my few trips through there, I've seen several unmarked mustang LXs and a red Dodge Daytona. (No, that wasn't a typo.) All on I-10 if you're interested...

Wow... Ford Lightning as a cop car. They are damn fast too. In NJ, everyone uses the Caprice and Crownvic. I have also seen a Yukon, plenty of Expiditions, adn new Impalas. More of the st troopers top out around 130 or so.

I wish I was there...

In NJ, we got Crown Victoria's and Caprices!! =) If I lived there, I'd be a trooper just to drive the car!!

My neighbor has an SVT Lightning...and a SVT Cobra R...I like the Lightning, but wouldn't ever drive one...too much $$$ and it's a TRUCK!! The Cobra is WAY too ricey IMHO.

My dad has a state car...a '98 Chevy Lumina that is fast as hell!!

In OKC, we have the Caprices, Crown Vics, Tahoe's, 2000 Impala's, Camaro Z28 6-spds...unmarked: I've seen a red F-250 CrewCab dually, I black TA RA 6-spd, a green Geo Tracker 4-dr, a new beatle...oh yeah, and an old Datsun 240SX!! We have sooo many unmarked police cars, they are all drug busts that they take the car and make them police cars...sucks.

In my neighboorhood the cops aren't usually unmarked. They are in white Tahoes, Jeep Cherokees, crown vics, and 2000 impalas. It was kind of funny to see them peelin' out when they got the new cars this year. Like a bunch of kids with new toys.

I know TX DPS was trying to save money on vehicles by not painting them. Obviously they have done away with that effort. That's a lot of truck to paint black and white. And to those in Houston, this was on Beltway 8 at US 59.

Here in Memphis, we've got a fleet of marked 2000 Impalas, a few marked cherokees, a few marked minivans as well as Geo Trackers. They have every type of vehicle unmarked here as I'm sure they do everywhere. I've seen 2 96 maximas, both gold and 1 pearl White Escalade... just don't feel safe anymore =(

YeaH I saw one as well

I think the police are starting to drive those things. Here in Atl on I-75 I was going about 80 and I slowed to 75. Right as I did that I saw this blue big truck on the left hand side of me, Guess what it was, a damn Georgia State Patrol TRUCK, an F-150 with a cab on the back. No svt though. But it scared the hell out of me to find that he almost couldve pulled me over. It was funny when he drove by all the cars in front of me all you saw as he passed were nothing but brake lights flashing every where. I thought that was pretty damn sneeky and funny.

I've been seeing the F150's around here for quite some time now. Especially on 1604. I'm starting to be able to pick them out of the crowd. Not too many black and white pickups with light bars around.

The ones that are scaring me are the unmarked cars. I've seen unmarked Caprice's, with tinted windows and light bars mounted on the rear speaker deck. There's also a new metallic blue unmarked Crown Vic roaming around, again with dark tinted windows and lights inside. I've seen it several times. I hate that one because it looks too much like a Town Car, and I tend to ignore it. There is even a dark blue unmarked S10 Blazer with dark tinted windows and lights mounted inside. Cheaters!

Of course, we still have our share of SAPD white Explorers, F150's, and Crown Vic's. I've noticed the F150's tend to be stopping big rigs and 18-wheelers, and the Explorers seem to be mostly K-9 units. Makes sense, I guess.

Grey Forest, a little town outside of San Antonio, uses at least one silver Cherokee.

As far as the state troopers go, I don't see too many of the Mustangs or Camaros any more. They seem to be replacing them with F150's.

Next thing you know, they'll be using Frontier 4-doors and Exploder Sport Tracs!
