dunlop sport A2's mounted
my old BFG HR4's which i got used are completely toasted. i figured i should replace them before something bad happens. i ordered a new set of 215/60/15 dunlop sport A2s from the tirerack. price was $261 shipped to NJ. it arrived the next day. the price was good. if you average out the shipping and mounting charge it's about the same as buying them from sears on sale. you might save a buck or two my way, especially if you find cheaper mounting prices.
overall, i've only had these tires for one day, but already notice a vast improvement in dry traction. very sticky tires when new. it's hard to light them up. if they hold well on the 60' maybe i might run 13's on street tires afterall lol. noise level is the same as my old BFGs. cornering feel is confidence inspiring (stiff). i highly recommend these tires as stock replacements. i was able to validate my Gforce ECU as being a "real" SE tonight if you know what i mean.

I have these same tires on my fronts right now, and Toyo Proxes (something or other) on the rear (don't ask me why...it's how the car came used). The Dunlops have EXCELLENT dry traction, and they do pretty darn good in wet too. They're very good tires. When the Proxes are on the front (rotations) I don't have nearly as good dry traction and they're much easier to light up.
When the time comes I'll probably replace all 4 with a set of the Dunlop Sport A2's. Awesome tires!

I read those were pretty good tires, but I also thought the SP Sport 5000 replaced those as the premier all season performance Dunlop. Can anyone confirm this? I'm looking to get a set of 5000s for my other ride --- a Ford Escort ( ) before winter hits.

A2 are good in rain really??? my sp sport 5000 are pretty bad in rain, when i corner at speed limit + a little they understeer
and they weren't that good at the track they were slipping like crazy, my best 60' is 2.38 ... but that had to do with track condition and my launching skills.

agreed,
I got them in 215/55/16 on 16s..
noise level is amazing to me, i have never had a tire this quiet before
they look great
dry traction is awesome, sufficient enough for some hard driving
wet traction is the same, i never had any problems with them holding the road..
they are supposed to replace the Dunlop D60 Sport tires which were nationally rated as the best all around high performance all season tires.. the A2s follow them up and are improved.

Whoa! That's the first bad info I've received regarding this tire....hmmm, they are supposed to be better in every way than the A2 generation.

they are more expensive, probably more sporty
but if you look at the chart on tirerack at the bottom of the page, the SP5000s aren't much different from A2 Sports, infact A2s are better in dry traction and a little better in every other category.

The Dunlop SP Sport 5000 is not an update from the Sp Sport A2, it is an upgrade from the SP Sport 4000. The A2 and the 5000 are in different classes, the 5000 being a more performance-oriented tire than the A2. That's not to say that the A2 is a slouch in that department. I think they're a great bang for your buck, and will most likely be my next set of tires for my car.
Also, you cannot directly compare the Tirerack survey ratings between the two. It's true that the A2 has better numbers than the 5000, but if you think about it, people who buy the 5000 will tend to be more performance-oriented people, so they will grade tougher than than people who buy the A2.

The Sport A2s replaced the D60 A02, The SP 5000 is a higher performance tire than the Sport A2. The SP 5000 comes in Asymetrical and Symetrical treads and can be ordered in H or V rated speeds. I have the D60 A02s on one car (Honda)and the SP 5000 on the other (I30), both are great tires, however it is about time for Dunlop to upgrade the SP 5000 like they did the D60 A02 with the Sport A2. I have had great results with both sets of Dunlops with the SP 5000 being a superior tire. I got V Rated SP 5000s for $77.00 each shipped from tire rack. Installion and balancing was $14.00 per tire.
IMO Dunlop has some of the best price performance tires available.

Just as I suspected, if a comparison were made between the two I would think the SP 5000 would come out on top. I think its about time for a replacement as well, which means its probably a good time right now to get the last of the SP 5000s before the new and likely more expensive replacement tire hits the market.

can't really compare them ratings wise that much
i still think they are awesome and i've pushed the car around corners and in different kind of weather and they never let me down once..
at the time, they cost 102$ in 16" and had just came out on tirerack.. I got them without knowing squat about the tires and i am damn happy. Now, I'd say for the 87$ they sell them for, it's definately the best all around tire for an enthusiast to get as a stock replacement
