probably a little cheaper...just like the max vs the I35 now. The new max would probably be a "toned down" version of the Q with more emphasis on "sporty" while the Q holds down the "luxury" end. wow..a rwd V8 sedan, pure 4DSC

6spd AWD with a Q45 motor? Now that would be nice! I bet the price would be quite a bit higher then what where use to though.

Well the Infiniti M45 should be on show room floors by now, from pics I have seen it looks about the size of a 5th gen. From other rumors I have heard by 2005 the max will be RWD with the 4.5L V8.

Well the new platform is definitely capable of using awd, since the Murano will share it too. It would be great if the 6th gen had a rear-biased system like the V35 Skyline 250GT Four.

only trouble being if they make a larger wheelbase the car is not sporty anymore...it's a boat.

Nissan has already said about a zillion times that the next Max will be based on a stretched Altima platform. Which means it will be FWD at first, maybe AWD later (like someone said, the Murano is AWD). But definitely not RWD. The base engine will be, what else, the 3.5L V6, and who knows, maybe they can shoehorn that 4.5L in there for an AWD version. We've already seen spy pics of the 2004 Max courtesy of BrianV, so expect a big Altima looking 2004 Maxima, albeit with the wonderful interior we've always had for Maximas. In order to stay competitive, Nissan also needs to provide a 5-spd automatic.

The 2004 Max will not be based on the M45, which itself is based on the JDM Cedric sedan.

That's the M45.

There's no way the max will be a toned down Q.

Actually Soundmike and other members have shown and talked to members of the Nissan Engineering team and they have simply shot down the allagations that the crappy Alta-suck BrianV got pictures of is the "new" maxima.
I surely hope it isn't.
I mean just because the maxima is getting bigger doesn't mean it's getting suckier.....I mean think about the BMW 7-series, Lexus GS models, The Mercedes E-series, all very cool cars. Being huge doesn't limit your sportieness.
