SC kit question - cam sensor retainer

The used V1 supercharger kit I just bought showed up without the cam sensor retainer. I called Stillen and they have it for $25. I looked at as many pictures as I could of it (thanks ptatohead!)and have come to the conclusion that I could make the same thing for considerably less than $25. I know I am sounding incredibly cheap, but it galls me to pay $25 for a simple piece of sheet metal or plastic with a couple of holes drilled in it, if that is what it is.

Those of you with the SC kit, could you describe it to me? I understand the purpose of the retainer is just to reposition the sensor 45 degrees from a vertical orientation. Is it a metal or plastic piece (I could do both), and how thick is it?

By the way, I work at a machine shop, so I have access to all the machine tools I need to fabricate the part.

Thanks!

Steve

Re: SC kit question - cam sensor retainer

I dont use it.

Its used to rotate the cam position sensor harness out of the way of the SC bracket. Its a thin piece of steel that has hole in it for the 10mm bolt that normally holds the cam sensor in. You rotate the cam sensor toward the back of the car ~90deg and this part holds the cam sensor in place.

yea. seriously. that piece really isnt worth it.

along with the stupid fuze box tear-drop bolt.

that kit seriously has some overpriced lamer bolts/pieces

but hey! at least you wont shread belts with your v1

notice the bracket.. it's spot welded right?

compared to shizzy casting for the v2.

Same stuff happened to me. Stillen has a minimum order of $50, so not only won't they sell you the $25 part, but they'd want you to buy something else as well . If Mardi says you can get by without it, I'd say go for it.

Wow, great news, guys. Thanks for the quick response. So basically, there's no problem being able to connect the cam position sensor harness to the sensor with the sensor pointing straight up?

connect it as you put the bracket on and be carefull not to pinch the wires between the bracket and the timing chain cover,
