is it really that good of a deal?

ok, guys time to add up the numbers. Let's say the courtesy mevi was $350 and you wanted to buy the engine cover.

Courtesy

350 MEVI
120 (dawes, harlan, other parts)
100 cover from cranman
40 shipping
supporting bracket for cover???

the total is at least $610

Cranman:

Everything listed above shipped, total is just under $700 guaranteed. (freight shipped)

Courtesy

advantages: seemingly cheaper price, apparent less wait time

disadvantages: not yet tested to work, the 350 price is still unsure, unknown price of supporting bracket, the extreme demand will put these in back order for months.

Cranman:

advantages: tested and works, support from cranman if you have any problems, don't have to go out and find all the accessories,

disadvantages: wait time for mevi, possible slightly higher price

I ordered from cranman, and stand by the order, to me it still looks like a better deal with everything compared.

Re: is it really that good of a deal?

from what I understand, the support piece is not needed, we already have it on the manifold, and everything is their to wire the vi, just that it's not a Harland brand switch

here's an idea. Since Cranman pioneered the MEVI for the 4th gen Maxima. Maybe he should buy all the VI's from Courtesy (save on freight since it's in bulk and is domestic), and add whatever needs to be added to make it work. It Courtesy Nissan is going to supply the manifold for less than his distributor, then no one really has to lose business and it might even lower the cost down. Everyone would just order their complete MEVI kit from Cranman.

I second that motion and ask the Chairman to call for a vote.

That sounds like a absolutly fair idea: to let Cranman be the distributor of these and offer it all as a package. This is better for a. Courtesy Nissan b. Cranman c. all Maxima owners due to the fact that ot would cost even less than buying it from courtesy. Once you add a switch $60-$100; shipping $40 it's gonna be $387+ $80 switch avg.+ 40 ship. = $507 and some change( assuming you don't want the cover)...hmmm sounds kinda close to the 550 from Cranman. The major difference I can determine from all of this is: that unless Courtesy is stocking up on these like crazy, then we won't all be revieving these as planned. In reality, we can only order what they have stocked and this would mean some would be waiting for a while... do you see what I'm saying? Demand vs. Supply will be the determining factor in this "$350 for VI" deal. Cranman, you should give em' a call and see what's up with this idea of Kevin's! right!?

Ummmm.

Cranman is a hella nice guy - But it wasn't only him that "pioneered" them, and definately is not the only one who sells them.

Oh my bad IanS, sorry I forgot to include you in the last thread, but yeah you both should get a hold of them and see what's up! 2 distributors is always better than just though, always.

Oh, I'm sorry. I thought the two of you were working together on the whole thing. You guys would refer people to each other depending on time and supply. Never thought you guys had a competition or anything. So perhaps, the two of you guys should be the only guys in town for the complete kit.

If the VI can really be bought for $350 from Courtesy and say shipping is no more than $50 you are looking at about $400 or less shipped. From Cranman and Ian it would be about $550 shipped. With either deal you would have to spend another $100 plus for assorted extra parts, but seximagtr said the courtesy came with an RPM switch, another $50 savings. If you want the cover the extra $45 shipping cost will cut into the savings, but it is still over $100 less. I appreciate everything these guys have done but $150 (or more if the RPM switch is included) is a significant savings.

This deal sounds to ggod to be true but if it's for real I will probably be getting a VI in the spring. Now if the RPM switch is not included maybe someone can find out if the 97+ Maximas have an unused activation wire somewhere

Yes, we are in competition, but not maliciously. We don't try to screw each other, and we are both very civil about the whole thing. Cranman is a really nice guy, like I said, and we don't try and take each other's business.

So I can see how it may have looked like we were working together.

Yes you can use an MSD switch but you have to have it modified by them BEFORE you buy it for a 1 cyl. application because of our coil packs. It should be an extra 30 bucks or something. Synki did something like that

I could be wrong but I think Courtesy probably won't be getting these VI. Wouldn't and are they illegal by govermental standards?

Either way, they will still have to be shipped from overseas so I don't see how they will be so low in cost to us customers.

One more time if you mail Cranman two checks $245 each for sea freight that equals $490 not $550. In any way Cranman can get the VI faster, you just got to pay for the air delivery charge. The very first person to get a ME VI here in the US was Roadbeast and he sold one to Mardigrasmax. That was about one year ago.

Or you could pay me $280 twice, and get it air freight, and get a free solenoid. - Now that I've got my shipping time issue solved.

(Both Cranman's deal and I work out pretty much the same - I just don't do Sea Freight)

Just to complete the story , then ROADBEAST went on to rip off quite a few org members, like myself, by not delivering the goods . . .ever.

maybe some sort of import/export regulations, or possibly Nissan company policy

Nissan company policy is correct. I've spoken on the phone to Nissan Dealerships in japan about this specifically, and Nissan Global.

But then again, Cranman gets his from Japan - I assume he has a buddy over there or something.

As far as emmissions - i tested for this year with Y-Pipe, SC, B-Pipe, and MEVI - passed with flying colors.

hmmmmm maybe the courtesy is importing them *** a performance part and not a OEM part. cause i know at my dealership. we've been getting intake manifold gaskets from the s15 for the turbo motors. but they are sold as performance part and not oem.

If I get sent to the middle east there is a 95% chance I'd end up in Baharian at some point, in which case I would DEFINETLY go looking for our favorite person from the region.... just to say 'hello' of course...
