Take 2, thank you Andrea my 13 month old.

Yesterday, when going for a sub at Jersey Mikes at lunchtime in Dublin (Columbus), Ohio, I passed a 3rd gen silver/gray max with black leather. Just to see how many miles were on the old gal I peaked in the window. At first I thought I saw 83,000 something miles, then I realized that I saw 381,217 miles on the odometer, this blew me away. I walked over and got into my max, but wanted to double check so I double checked by pulling back up to the 3rd gen and checking it again. I had seen correctly. Holy sheeit.

I would love to know what type of maintenance this vehicle had had and whether or not they have ever replaced the engine or not.

Is this the high mileage champ?

That'd take me about another 90 years to get to that much mileage considering how little mileage (~3500 miles/year) I put on my Max every year.

It is always cool to see an early gen model of the ar you have still running with that many miles on it. Really shows how long you can have it if cared for properly. In one of my Mothers old VW Bug magazine there was a early 70's engine with over 1 million miles on the odometer.

There was an 89 at a dealership here a while back with over 500k miles on it. yes, 500k.
only maintenance that had been done to it were regular stuff- fluid changes, brakes, axles, an alternator and battery here and there. Tranny and engine were still original- never opened up according to the dealer.
impressive to say the least!

I remember test driving a 92 with 340k...still ran like a dream! I was gonna buy it as a 2nd car, but couldn't see spending the $1200. Besides, I didn't like the weird mint green color.

Go to the police department that had jurisdiction where the car is. Some jurisdictions allow you to put a claim on an abandoned vehicle - they'll attempt to notify the owner and/or post a notice on the vehicle for x number of weeks. Beyond that, the vehicle is considered abandoned and becomes your property.

If it's abandoned on a freeway etc then the police may move it to an impound yard for safety reasons. Not sure if you'd have to pay the towing/impound charges to claim it. Some places will just auction abandoned cars during their regular auctions.
