if it's heavier and has less torque, it seems slower because it is slower.

Lots of talk going back and fourth

Motor Trend, Road Test, June 1994
Ask us, and we'll tell you how the Maxima SE will whip the Nissan 300ZX, Integra GS-R and Taurus SHO in 0-60 mph and quarter-mile acceleration-and how it challenges or, in some cases, exceeds their handling marks, too."

"Our tester, a five-speed SE version of this fourth generation of Maxima, produced a blazing 6.6-second 0-60-mph time, a 15.2-second, 92.4-mph quarter-mile run, 0.83g skidpad cornering power and a 65.1-mph slalom run. That tops the Taurus SHO five-speed in every category. The new Maxima shows no mercy on its Nissan stablemates: It'll stomp the normally aspirated 300ZX, and drivers of automatic-transmissioned 300ZX Turbos best not be snoozing when the light goes green."

The 300z did have the 3rd gen VG didn't it?

Motor Trend, February 1995
One of the technical high points of the '95 Maxima is its new V-6 engine, which is standard in all models. This new VQ powerplant is similar in configuration to the VG-series it replaces: Both are 3.0-liter 24-valve DOHC 60-degree sixes. But that's where the parallels end. The revolutionary VQ is smaller, lighter, cleaner, cheaper to build, and easier to maintain. It also makes more power and torque yet delivers better fuel economy."

Ward's Auto World, January 2001
For the seventh year in a row, Nissan's VQ motor--which powers the new Pathfinder, Maxima/Infiniti I30 and the new Z--was named to Ward's Auto World's "Ten Best Engines of the Year" award list. The VQ is the only engine in the world to receive the award every year since the list has been compiled. In speaking of the VQ, Ward's said, "We've said it before and we'll say it again. There isn't a better V6 in automotivedom--regardless of price." Joining the VQ on the list were powerplants from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Honda, Toyota, Ford and GM

I really like the styling of the car though

Just transplant a TT engine into it, no need for a new car

he got a great deal

i do this as well
buy stuff i am not 100% sure about but the price sways my decision because I will never exactly know until I try it... i usually sell the stuff back for the same amount or at a profit

not sure if he did this as well
but he can definately re-sell it for the same amount or at a profit, i'm sure of it.

dam, let the guy be...that yellow 300Z looks great

I was actually thinking of getting a 300Z before buying 190hpkilla's car but dam, i'm too big for that car plus i need my room, I honestly would get an acura legend coupe over it just for the fact that its fast and big, and 6 speed!, i just hate the interior, the middle console area, nothing touches the maxima in that category...

Come join the darkside my friend... join us...

You'll be MUCH happier w/a TT. I sold my 96SE for my TTZ and have never once regreted it. Parts are expensive and sometimes you have to do a little restoration work to it but other than that, like some have mentioned, it's a timeless classic. I'm still impressed from time to time seeing a 240 or 280Z but I have never been impressed by an older maxima rolling around, no matter how good it looks.

Not to insult some of your guy's intelligence but you DEFINATELY need to think before you write. One of you had written that the 3rd gen is getting more rare than the Z??? another wrote that he beats na/tt's in his 3rg gen...haha... that's comedy. Only a dozen or so of you have high HP max's even #'s that I'm impressed with but those of you that have your basic CAI, exhaust, y-pipe... really need to compare apples to apples.

Dropping money into the Z is no joke. Due to popular belief, you DON'T have to replace the turbos every 80K or so. My car has almost 125K on it w/ stock turbo's and still showing no signs of wear. You're more likely to replace the injectors isntead of the turbo's. I'm not going to deny the fact that the car is not expensive... you pay for what you get. I DID have to do some maintenance things to my car and I'm still working on restoration items such as new floor carpeting which is about $450, new weather stripping... Honestly, my only regret is not having enough money to do all the thins I would like to do. But eventually seeing more and more old people driving brand new maximas and knowing that my 4th gen would be slow unless I drop a SC in it was something I could not live with.

190hpkilla... if you want a TTZ, just look and I'm sure you'll find a good one. I KNOW you'd be much happier with that. I sold my 96SE in Jun of 01 for 10K and bought my 93TT for 12,300. Yes my insurance is higher but only about $30 and I have a clean record 23, unmarried, on my own, not under my parents ins. policy.

Good luck finding the car you want.. you'll never get tired of the TTZ and the many roads you can take in modifying it.

1988 acura legend first car I ever drove. It was in mint condition. I'm pretty sure those things could easily compete with 4th gen maxima's. Awesome car.

hahahah, hell no! the stats show that this car is slow, even if i was stock, i would never be scared of those old style legends...the new ones look so nice, dam man, I really just love the exterior, the engine looks real uncomfortable, I HATE THE SPEEDOMETER SO BADLY, so many dam numbers, they measure it by 10's putting 10's on the count, that sucks a$$. If i could make my own car, the legend coupe (92+) exterior with the 4th gen max interior
