i've got my egt gauge today (auto meter 2 1/16 ultra lite) and it's reading 400 degrees. is that alright even though it's obviously not hooked up at all yet? will it correct itself? thanks for help anyone..

Yes, it is normal. My EGT gauge doesn't return to zero when I turn off my ignition. It reads correctly once ignition is on and voltage is getting to the gauge.

You are fine. My Autometer use to sit at 200-300F when it wasn't coonected to the EGT probe.

Do any of you have your gauge on the A pillar?

Where did you ground it at?

I had mine (before it was stolen ) on the A pillar, I just ran one wire up to ground both my gauges (fuel pressure and EGT) I just connected the ground wire under a bolt with bare metal....
