Z = +$108 more a month in insurence, more in gas...or I could boost for free...now if you don't think my max with a 3.125 V1 would destroy a Z then you are in denial. I've driven one - Fast, Torquey, and RWD...Mmmmmm.....but a Supercharged Maxima is even more Mmmmmmmmmm.
StephenMax, I'm talking crank HP. I'm looking for around 280whp.

A S/C Maxima would have a hard time fending off a well driven LS1 6 speed. Compare apples to apples and add a head/cam package and no Maxima would touch ya. Its all about what you want though. Do you want a fast straight line car that might break every now and then or a pretty reliable sedan?

Ohhh you were thinking LS1?? No man, I was talkin LT1. Your right about the LS1. My buddy with the 2000 SS 6spd would probubly take me to 60. I would be pushing more crank HP but he's got the gearing and RWD advantage...on the highway I bet I could keep with him though. LS1's are very fast, I agree with you, but once again I wasn't talking about them. I would destroy a stock LT1, which is the kind of Camaro I was looking at.

My Z28 had $1200 in mods where as Mardigras has $$$$$. A friend of mine has a 95 Z28, auto, 3.73s, heads, cam, headers, catback, intake, custom chip, and drag radials. He's pulling 12.4s@111mph. I think he's got about $5000 in quality mods. Once he gets his high stall torque converter installed, he'll be looking at close to 11s.

there are many different variations of LT1 out there, and yes he will be able to beat some, because I beat one at the track in my N/A auto, but it was an automatic convertible with the 2.73 gears bone stock. LS1's are no joke when driven correctly. My friend that goes to the track with me has a 2000 firebird with the 6 speed, and he only has a lid/K&N, headers, y-pipe, and cutout and he trapped 112.5 mph last weekend. I can't think of any maximas that can trap that high. Mardigrasmax is trapping 110? which is pretty damn fast.

Harold will be able to trap 110-112 when he cranks up the boost I'm willing to bet. But you are right it takes alot in a Max to trap that high.
Once you start opening up an LT1 it becomes much more LS1-like... they are incredibly corked from the factory.
By the same token briguymax took one about 5 times from a highway roll in his max when it was broken and trapping like 93mph.

That trap is kinda low which IMO indicates that it goes hard for the first 1/8 and then starts slowing towards the end. Even your friends 12.4 doesnt show much top end. He is getting out of the hole real hard with his DR's and thats what makes his time so good. LT1s have more low end than LS1's, but the LS1 has a much broader powerband making it much quicker up top. I think that Craig would have a hard time with a LS1 6 speed.

I agree I would have a hard time even with a stock LS1 6spd. I can't believe how hard my friends SS pulls on the highway...it's just sick. I've also seen him almost lose control of that beast on many occasions. Camaro's definatally drive alot differently then Maxima's.

I personally think that a better launch could be what stands between a victory and a loss.
I always think it's quite funny that whenever someone tries to post anything about a 1/4 run or a make a point about doing the 1/4 miles, everyone on the .org hounds on the person for 60' times. Or like the guy that posted about if you actually won the race or not. That wasn't the point of this post. The point was just to show launchesin a front wheel drive car. This just makes me laugh.

"FWD Sucks - or does it?" is the thread title and the text in the video points you against RWD.
FWD sucks very bad, when compared to RWD for launching. Harold just had better launches than the cars he raced in those videos in those particular races. 2.1 60's are average for high HP FWD cars, if he pulls 1.8's on street tires thats great. I get eaten out the hole by allot of RWD cars pulling 1.8's and 1.9s on streets tires, but I walk them down by the 1/8 mile mark and pull away.
Maybe the point was to help sales?

The point of the video was not to say FWD was better than RWD, because i do not believe that. I very much favor RWD, and love it.. but I got sick of everyone saying to me "why turbo a fwd" , etc etc, saying that they can not be launched.. I'd say I do a decent job pulling 2.0 and 2.1's on all-season 225's w/ factory (slippig) clutch and worthless tirespin.
yes still, i agree trap speed is the most important compared to 0-60, etc.. there was a mustang that ran a 12.5 with a 1.7 60',,, i looked like i just got eaten alive by him, which i did.. then you see that i trapped 2mph faster than him, guess who would win from a roll.. i was trapping faster than him even in the 1/8th
fwd sucks for handling and for fun , and isnt the best for launching either - but i have gotten used to it and am sick of people saying "fwd sucks, why bother turboing front wheel drive car," etc, so i made this little video to show them..

I will say this, FWD absolutely sucks for drag racing. Everything works against it when it comes to getting off the line and shifting. Weight transfer unloads the front tires and you get lots-o-wheel spin. You can strap on a set of slicks and pray to the almighty that you might be able to rip a low 1.9 60'. The thing is, a STOCK Corvette Z06 (~370rwhp) with M&H ET slicks can pull 1.6X 60 foots and run 11.4-11.6s@116mph. I'm using the Z06 as an example because the power to weight ratios are very similiar. For every .1 you shed off your 60', you're looking at .2-.25 seconds at the far end. If you yank off a 1.9 60' and the Z06 yanks off a 1.6, you could be looking at a difference of .6 to .75 seconds in ET even though your trap speeds might be similiar. That's about 5-6 car lengths assuming the reaction times are the same. At every point on the track, the Z06 is accelerating harder compared to your car simply because he got off the line so much quicker. Advantage = RWD
BTW, I want a run down of your best timeslip:
60'
330'
1/8
MPH
1000'
1/4
MPH
Lots of us a curious. You seem to be quite secretive about all this.

u guys need to look into driving maximas as daily drivers and building some 2 door rwd cars to go fast. all the time and money you put into these things and your excited about 13.2s ill prolly never hit 13.2 in my maxi but ill annihilate it in my Z (72 240z w/SBC&T-5)and thatll be with a stock motor no cams or nothing. and if i want a cam i can go to advanced auto and buy a lunati cam for 110 bucks with lifters and make another 40 -50 horse in like 4 hours. cant do that with a maxima. look into it guys its one helluva experience building your own car from the groundup -pete

woah, i almost pulled out my credit card...dam, i am speechless and i just realized that i want speed but if i'm going to go all out on a car, i rather get something where flaws would be at a minimum, maybe a new Z wit turbo...they rwd right? that and a turbo,
