Someone from Ohio needs suggestions on tars for the 17" SE Wheels

Obviously her Max needs tires. We have squeaked about 29k miles out of the Bridgestone Potenza RE92's on it. Old Man Winter stopped in today and the traction control light seemes to flash like the lights of the Ohio State Highway Patrol that I love so much........ anyway, I need to get some tars for the car. Anyone have suggestions for decent performance, much better treadwear than the RE92's and less road noise? Her previous 99 SE has the Toyo Proxes on it and I was impressed with them...... my problem is that the brand I would normally buy (Cooper Cobra GTH)are not available any size close to the 225/50R17.

Any Suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Travis

If you plan on keeping the car a few years, I would invest the $600 (shipped) it costs to get a decent set of snow tires with steelies/covers from tirerack.com. Problem with all season tires is that after about 20k or so miles, they are very marginal for winter use but are still very good for dry/wet. After 3 solid winters, the tread on my winter set is very very crisp and the performance far exceeds all season tires. $600 may seem like a lot but you will enjoy the confidence of better grip and safer handling. I recommend a narrow width on 16" steelies (15" if it will fit). When summer comes around, get a decent set of wide width performance tires. Problem with all seasons is that what's good for dry (wide, low profile) is bad for winter (narrow, high profile). You can never waste money when it comes to safety and tires.

I would agree

I just bought a set of Blizzaks for my wife's Protege P5. The Dunlop 5000's are nice, when it's not snowing. The Blizzaks were "great in the snow today," according to her

Good luck!

Wassup Curt!

Yeah, kinda stunk that we got that wet snow today. Luckily I only had a short drive to work... don't have the winter set on yet and hopefully can put it off for another week.

Love the Protege5. Nice choice man...
