J.D. Power's reliability rating of Japanese cars.

1. Lexus
2. Infiniti
15?. Nissan
16?. Mazda

I guess there really is a difference between the two (Nissan, Infiniti).

The bottom line is that Nissan placed 2nd last in the study. Ouch.

Because even though Nissan/Infiniti are mechanicaly very similar, the "perceived" reliablity is different. Mostly because customers base their experience on how they were treated vs what was wrong.

ie.. if you had to have an engine/tranny replaced twice but got superior service and a really nice loaner each time. That might rate differently if you had to fight tooth/nail for blown maf and had to ***** back and forth 10 times before getting some kind of result.

They funny thing is, consumer reports rates the maxima as one of the most reliable cars. I kind ignore JD powers. So someone on the list serve was saying how the Malibu....yuk...won some initial quality thing.

So tongiht, I hear an ad on the radio and they say about the malibu winning blah blah, but then i hear "Best lower entry level midsize car".

JD POWERS HAS LIKE 50 LEVELS!

IMO, Infiniti has tighter tolerance control for their parts manufacturing. That's why they are more reliable.

That study refers only to "initial quality", not long term reliability.
