Lost to an MX-6...

Coming home from the mall I caught sight of a beautiful black MX-6. From what I saw, he was lowered, had 18" (or so) wheels, bodykit, exhaust, tint, and wing. This thing was really gorgeous. Anyways I played follow-the-leader for a little while until we both got stopped at a redlight. Yeah we knew what was gonna happen.

Off the line I spun for line I spun for like 2 seconds and he got traction just before me, and immediatley got a car ahead of me. From there on he gradually pulled, until 125MpH where he was about 2.5 cars ahead of me. We both cut off then, we were approaching traffic.

Anyways I didn't know these things could be that fast? Can anyone brief me on some specs? I definitely give him his props, he won no doubt. As I drove by I waved the well-done symbol (the perfect thingy, kinda like a playboy symbol hehe) and continued on my way. I was impressed by the MX-6, but also impressed that my Max kept pulling at 120MpH+. Anyways his license plate was "MXTA**" if anyone hangs out on the MX-6 forums let him know I was impressed with the car. Gorgeous and fast - can't beat that.

Are they the rounded shape model? I know for a fact that old MX-6(boxy shape) came with a turbo from factory. What year is your max mang?

Yes it was the newer/round style, I'm 70% sure it was a 5spd, and my Max is a '96 auto.

the mx-6 6cylinder 5speeds can be quite fast, they run mid 15's stock and with bolt on's they are comprable to a 5speed max. they are much like the probe GT V6's. he was probably a low 15 to high 14 sec car with intake, exhaust and a couple other things. my cousins boy friend has a probe GT 5speed and me and him were a good race when all i had was CAI

The lat year they were produced, 1997, they came with either a 2.0 118hp 4 cylinder or a 2.5 164hp V6. The car only weighs like 2700 punds though, so that might be a factor in its speed. Hope that helps.

I've owned a number of MX6s, 626s, and Probe GTs. The style you are talking about, made from 1993 to 1998 came with the engines stated above. A common swap for them is the KLZE motor out of the Japanese Mazda Cosmos, a 200hp version of the stateside 2.5L V6. The US 2.5L is sweet little motor, very much a mini VQ, but a little more peaky in HP and TQ than the VQ. The 200HP version is even nicer. With that swap it would be a mid 14 second car with bolt ons, without it maybe high 14s, more likely low 15s though. Honestly they respond very poorly to mods. I do frequent the Probe GT/ MX6 forums I'd be happy to try to find out who it was.

Edit: Its possible he was spraying too... are you auto or 5spd Vyrus?

Really? I never liked them much and thought they were slow and ugly. Didn't know they were mid-15s stock. A guy at my school had a auto MX-6 V6 that had an outragoues body kit (those big mouth ones) and it was painted bright lime green. *shudder* It left a bad impression on me about MX-6s.

So I guess they are faster than 240SXs stock for stock eh? Well atleast the 240SX handles better.

I don't think he was spraying, but I'm pretty sure he was a 5spd. I am an auto, so I'm not really surprised he won. He is in Va, with the stuff mentioned above. I appreciate it.
Thanks,

I raced a Probe GT once with 5spd and he had at least intake and exhaust. From 30-90 I pulled about 3 cars on him. I have a 99 5spd, stock.

Actually this was in Suffolk territory. If you follow High St. in P-town all the way down into Suffolk it becomes Route 17. It was a traffic light out there, at about 2:00PM to hehe. It's all good I enjoyed losing for a change , plus it was a sweet car I would like to find more about if I can.
