Stock Cat 50% blown, what to do?

A week ago when my exhaust shop installed my resonator, they found that the guts of my stock catalyst converter are 50% gone. I want my cat to do as much as possible to quiet down my exhaust system. I can get my hands on a used OEM catalyst that's fully functional for DIRT cheap. If I were to replace it, would it make a noticeable difference in noise? Some guy said an aftermarket hi-flow cat would make it quieter then an OEM one, but that doesn't even make sense.

Thanks in advanced

Yup, it's illegal, but it'd be from a local org member who parts out junked cars.

lophix, I could get a used OEM one for dirt cheap, a fraction of the cost of a warpspeed carsound. And whats your reasoning behind getting a hi-flow one

The new WSP metallic-substrate high-flow cats run $185 so they don't come cheap, but they have great a design. The main thing is that the metal is much thinner so air flows through it much faster (less backpressure), but they also reach their full operating temperature much faster than ceramic cats, yet run cooler, and are less likely to get clogged.

But does it quiet better then OEM? If it flows better then the answer is more then likely NO, the same with any other hi-flow cats. I could get a used OEM catalyst for about 1/7th of that price.

Aren't you getting a V1 soon? In that case don't change it until you get it. You're gonna want to drop in a 3" exhaust. And I don't know about the sound, I would assume they are louder too.

Hello no, been there and done that.

Stick with OEM, they are the best.....unless you are FI, then you are good with straight pipe. For ppl with bank 1 sensor (post Cat), good luck! you can only use OEM without getting CEL.

I just finished putting on a Catco high flow cat. And I noticed a pretty big difference in sound. I have a y-pipe and a flowmaster exhuast, so it was LOUD. It's alot more quiet now. Took alot of the bass out.
