RX7 wheels and 300ZX Calipers?

I have the 15.4 pound RX7 wheels. I'm going to do the 300ZX conversion.

The offset on the wheel is 50 (rx7 wheel)
The offset on stock 16 inch is 40? ( 98 se wheel)

Neither of these are ready to install. The wheels need refinished and I need to get ZX rotors and pads.

The clearance issue is only with the inside of the wheel hitting the caliper. The overall diameter of the conversion doesnt increase enough to need bigger diameter wheels.

Im thinking I'll need at least a spacer for the stock SE wheels to clear and possibly an even thicker spacer for the RX7 wheel to clear.

ANyone have any inputs?

Actually, according to the manual, the stock offset is 45 with the alloys (15x6.5 and 16x6.5) and 40 with the steelies. (15x6) "

Hmmmmm

Re: Re: RX7 wheels and 300ZX Calipers?

Well, with my 300ZX brakes, my 17"s had 35 offset and barely cleared. And my 19"s have a 42 offset, but with a 6 mm spacer and barely clear. So it's like a 36 offset. Spoke design has a lot to do with it too, Ming's old Wilwood's cleared with Volks that had a 38 offset. But 50 is pretty far off no matter how wide the spokes come out. You're going to need probably a 10mm spacer for this to work.

Hmmm well I would rather use the brakes. If they dont clear the RX7 wheels I'll just sell them. They should clear the 98SE wheels w/a smaller that 10mm spacer though.

I've got the RX-7 wheels on my 3rd gen with a 5mm spacer in the front, but I don't have shaved 300Z brake rotors yet so I couldn't get a complete fit check. I tried to approximate the thickness of the rotor with some other spacers I have, but I don't know how close I came. The inner part of the spokes just barely rubbed on the caliper.

It looks to me like they would fit under the RX7 rims with about 7mm worth of spacers, but I won't know for sure till I get some rotors.

Did you have to have the 5mm for the rx7 wheel to clear your stock setup? On 4th gens they clear the stock ones fine according to others. I have the wheels now....calipers later this week.

I believe Thomas (sx7r) has the 300zx brakes on his car, and I know he has the Rx7 rims, you might want to email or PM him...

ah, thanks. I thought about the 240, but decided I want to stay reliable and not have to work on the car... I'm getting a 96se 5spd max...

Well I cant have my calipers till xmas...

Which is fair enough I suppose. I got to at least inspect them and they are fine.

So in an effort to see how much room ill need to fit these under the 16 inch 94 RX7 wheels I have (+50 offset) I took a front wheel off and slid one on......with the stock 98SE wheel I have maybe half an inch between the back side of the spoke and the stock caliper (less if i measure from the torque member, but ZX TT calipers dont have the torque member)

With the RX7 wheel......backside of spoke to stock caliper a whopping 28mm! Which is 1 and 1/8 inch.

Sooooo Im thinking that maybe just the "nissan" lettering will scrape....

No way im grinding that off so im going to try a 5mm
spacer.......

If that does'nt work i'll use a BFH
