Flip Flop Trunks??

I saw this modification...it makes it so that your trunk opens, and then flips down so that it stays parallel to the ground, and I thought it looked really cool, wanted to see if you had any input or experience. Theres a few sites that sell them, one that I saw was

Next Level Motoring

It's a pretty cheap mod, and looks awesome for showing off the system, let me know if you have any input!!

Sadler has revised his version of the flip flop trunk lid a while ago. I just did mine recently the same way he redid his and ZERO probs here!

cost: $5 and 20min using a welder(FREE)

make sure if you do get it welded that the paint on your trunk does not bubble, this was a grave issue with Jason's car because he just had his trunk repainted a few days before he had it welded. Ant did you get it done at jeff's shop also?

how so??

I had mine done with the shtt hinges that companies sell online to people in "kits" and i used home depot hinges and for the weight of our trunk and just the way it opens you can't use those hinges without them bending under pressure and the trunk not closing right.

you can however use a thick 1" x 1" hinge and weld it to the trunk lid and the arms of the trunk.. you take out the stock bolts when you want it to "flop" and put them back in when you want to close it up.

it's very simple actually.

do you have experiance with this mod Newbie??

cause if you dont, dont say anything! You poeple have to understand that if you dont weld these hinges in place it will eventrually come loose and cause some problems. My advice is to have it welded and forget about it. I must flop my trunk open once a day to show people and shes solid like a rock.

I wouldnt even take the remote possibilty it could leak with a system in the trunk. Sorry, thats just too much risk for some stupid little trunk deal.

Really, its a trunk.

Alright guys thanks for all the info. I stayed away from that FlipFlop trunk kit but I did end up purchasing a Racing video from them and got it in like 2 days and it was perfect. Thanks.
