Racing an AV6
Racing an AV6
no this isnt a kill story....my friend has an AV6 with AEM short ram....we plan on both racing from a dead stop, and then from a roll....my question is, what speed should we start the race at, so i can get the advantage
....is the auto gearing strong at a certain mph? does the AV6 gearing suck at a certain MPH? do these MPH overlap each other?
I'm hoping SteVTEC (sp) responds

I assume you're auto. You should beat him since you have a Y-pipe in addition to the intake.
As per this dyno comparison...

...your best chance is to race from a dead stop (at a track, for example
) where he'll be stuck in that car's lousy crap-a$$ economy VTEC torque hole.
AV6's will scoot, but only when above 4000rpm. Their speeds at redline in each gear are 42, 73, and 116. Maxima autos are roughly 45, 80, and 130 for comparison. If you start rolling races at 5-10 mph below their max speed in each gear, chances are that he won't be able to grab the next lower gear and the engine will bog below 4000rpm.
Having previously owned the car, I know for a fact that even if you manually downshift to 2nd or floor it and you're just above 60 mph, it *WILL NOT* downshift to 2nd and will just bog like mad with the engine at about 3500-3800rpm still not in the powerband.
aaaahh....the VQ. Torque

Yeah, AV6 = internet nickname for the Accord V6, after the site at www.accordv6.com
-----Strongest points for your auto-----
Power Brake and hold at 1800, let go and floor it when ready
The absolute best launch - going 30-35 floor it and kick it in to first
Going 60-65 kick it into 2nd
Going 70 or over, turn over drive off, the car will down shift, punch the gas and turn over drive back on (this will bum your RPM's up a little) this about the only way to get a good start above 70.
Good luck with the race

No making fun of the wheel gap. It is stock. It was just this bad w/ the OEM SE 16" rims, but these new rims draw more attention to the wheels and the fendergap. Be nice, I am a poor newlywed- I cannot afford to drop the max like she deserves!
i think its the lower profile size of the tires as well (i guess)...i dunno, looks worse than most, but i guess mines is lke that too...i guess you took it in the PERFECT spot for wheelgap

I'll buy your Sumitomo's so you can buy new ones
also, I drove my cousin's AV6 after installing his intake a few months back, and the car has some pep. The tranny just doesn't know what to do though....You nail it, and it'll just bog...imo, it also handles like crap.

On the AV6 note- I try to talk her into an Altima SE, but she is stuck on the AV6. She says it is more for her money...
