Conflicting thoughts on Pirelli P7000's

I've done some seraching on the org, and some people are saying that hte p7000 are excellent tires in all conditions, others are saying that they are no good in the rain or snow. Does anyone have any more thoughts on these tires?

so do they don't live up to the high performance all season category that they are classified in?

Compared to my current tires, Toyo Proxes T1-S, which I purchased for $5.00 more per tire, the Pirellis absolutely stunk. Around corners, I swear you could actually feel the sidewall compress as the tires started to chatter and squeal. Now, I take those same turns with my T1-Ss, and there is NO chatter and NO squealing. The wet weather traction also stunk. I hydroplaned 2 times within the 1st month I owned them. Recently, GA has gotten a TON of rain, more than my Pirellis saw, and I have YET to even loose traction before hydroplanning. They did last for about 45k miles, but at those last couple hundred miles, they were comparable to slicks. If you are just needing a tire, get them. But if you are wanting a GREAT tire with great overall performance and expectations, get the Toyo Proxes T1-S. I bought the Pirellis because of the name, and the tires did NOT live up anywhere near to tractor tires that cost $12.00 a piece.

I have supersports...

This is my first time in the rain w/ em, and I am feeling a bit of weak traction on wet ground.

I've had my P7000's for well over a year, bout 20k miles so far. I love em, they are fine for me in rain (I'm not about to drive in any snow) and it rains a lot here in Seattle. I've driven Michelin Pilot Sports, and I like my Pirellis better.

Buy Sumitomo HTR+ tires.

Outperform the 7000s easily, and cost easily under 100 a tire.

nothing better for the money

I would get HTR+ or Dunlop SP Sport a2s befor eth epirellis, just based on personal experience w/ the HTR=s and recommendations regarding the A2s.

I had the Pirelli SuperSports. They were a decent tire, but there were plenty of others that were better. They were really quiet when new but got noisy towards the end of life. Straight-ahead traction was good as was rain traction, at least as I recall. Handling was a bit mushy, though...soft sidewalls. A decent tire but considering the price, look elsewhere.

I'm probably gonna go with the sumomito HTR+'s. the only problem with those is that there is a huge backorder right now.

Thanks for the thoughts all...

PS the pirelli;s were only 93 a piece at tirerack.

Where were the sumomito's for under $100?

the P7000 is a decent tire. i wouldnt recommend them but they arent crap either. For that price, you can get a much better tire. They arent quiet tires and they have a soft sidewall (when compared to others in the same class)
Ive been selling tires for about 3 years now and ive gotten quite alot of feedback from the general public. The Pilot Sports are DEFINETELY better tires then the P7000. Dont take my word for it tho, check out the reviews that Tire Rack has on the tires.

Depends on the size. I had 7000SSs in 2255/45/17 for about $140/tire 2 years ago. They were OK to me. A little pricey. I switched to Kumho b/c of lower price and the 7000SSs get very noisy as they age. That drove me crazy.

all 4 P4000's had cracked sidewalls in my gf's RIP 93 Altima 5sp w/suspension mods. @ AutoX, I got lotta comments on how Pirelli in general suck for traction.

I have a friend who also had split sidewalls in his P7000 mounted in his stock M3. He was dissatisfied, went back to the tire shop and had them replace the tires.

Good point! I forgot to mention that my P7000SS tires got cracked
also. I only used Meguiar's on them and I have never, in 14 years in
AZ, had another set of tires get cracks like these did. Heck, I even
had Road Huggers on my Dodge Shadow that didn't crack like these.
Sorry for grammatical and spelling errors, but I'm totally ****ed on
16 yr. Lagavulin single malt scotch right now.

Yes, I had the same problem, maybe when the tires were 7 months old they started to crack. I used Meguiars, Black Magic, tire paste, everything to keep them from cracking but they still did. And once they started to crack, there was no stop to the madness......
