My brake pedal is soft/rubbery...

Hey,

I had my front brake pads replaced recently, and now my brake pedal is soft and rubbery. When I hold the brake pedal down I can still keep on pushing it. It feels like there might be some air in the lines.

I need you opinions.

Thanks.

Better yet, flush out that old brake fluid. It should be part of your maintenance. Brake fluid is hydroscopic which means it absorbes moisture. It should be replaced every few years.

Upgrade to the Big Brake Kit with 13" Rotors, 4piston calipers, ss lines.. I paid like $995 for it. But now there's a 10% off so you can get it even cheaper @ http://www.precisionbrakes.com

This really isn't the proper forum for this problem but I think Viagra may help you out in this situation......oh you mean your brake pedal is soft..., sorry I thought you meant something else...

Go all out and change everything....Your brakes are your life so don't be cheap. Like someone said previously change the all of the brake fluid by bleeding the old fluid out. Then go out and activate your ABS if equiped and bleed again.

Wait wait wait

If you are comparing the pedal feel from pre-brake to post-brake work, then it is likely you have air in the lines and need to bleed them. I would go on the recommendation since you are there anyway to go ahead and flush the brake fluid while you are at it.

IF you are saying that "the max brakes" are soft and spongy, then you will have to look into upgrading parts. Go to SS lines and redo the fluid should give you a bit better pedal feel. The BBK will give you a soft pedal as well. But with the BBK, you will have more "bite". I am still a believer that the original Master Cyclinder for the brakes cannot adequately handle a "larger" system.

The pedal became soft after the new pads. But how could air get in the lines if all we did was cut the rotor and change the pads?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Peace.

How soon after the new pads were in that you feel this. Until the pads break in a little, pedal feel will be soft. Give a few days and I bet it gets much better. If it DOESN'T continue to get better, arrange for your mechanic to perform a brake fluid flush. I assume since you arranged to have the pads changed, you don't feel 100% confortable about flushing the brake fluid also.

It's been about a month now. I just don't want to mess with all that fluid and stuff. I do most of the work on my car though.

Thanks.

Bleeding your brakes takes literally 15 minutes for all 4 wheels - If you've got the right rims, you don't even have to take the wheels off or jack the car up.

Hey,

I just had my fluid changed and the pedal still feels soft. For some reason, my clutch pedal feels a bit lighter too. Don't know how the clutch pedal could get lighter when brake fluid is changed, unless they changed the clutch fluid instead of the brake fluid. But looking under the hood, I can see that the fluid is new in the small container by the steering rack.

Need your opinion.

Thanks again.
