Damn PIAA Superwhite finally blew..

Should count myself lucky. It lasted me for almost 3 years. I still have one good one, not that I need it. I dont have the $$$ to spend on more PIAAs (as much as I'd love to get more). What brand does everyone recommend to get that isnt some funky color, (prefer white) doesnt blow worse than my ex gf, and puts out plenty of light?

Are you refering to H3's or 9004's?

For H3's I'd stick with PIAA, there not that expensive.

9004s. And since I paid $75 for my PIAA's, thats a bit more than I can afford....
I'd love HIDs, but at $350 and up, um, I'm gonna have to pass......

Tom, i'm looking at the super plasma H3's. any input on those?
also, when they say 55w>85w on the box it means they are 55W and put out 85w.. meaning they are safe for our stock harness right?

Sorry, I'm not Tom, but I can answer your questions .

I have the PIAA super plasma H3s and they're pretty good. Not as bright as 2K2 HIDs, but a nice white color. Definitely whiter than the xtreme whites. Check with soundmike for good prices on PIAAs.

You're correct about the power rating, they are 55W, but produce the same light intensity as normal 85W bulbs, so they are bright, but still safe for the wiring harness.

As for Whitemax, that sucks that the bulb died, but 3 years is excellent lifespan for any bulbs, especially PIAAs.

As was stated by Tanman, the super plasma was a hot looking bulb for sure. Colorfull too, looking twards them they appear white HID ish... But on the road they look a bit purple, look at them against a white wall someplace. Cool color, but remember the higher in color temp the lower the light output is.

I just baught the Silverstars, 4K in color for sure, there great, but I can't see where I'm going now. Another 40 bucks wasted.

Hey Jonathan-

Just wanted to let you know I've had a good expereince with the Phillips BlueVision. You can find them pretty cheap @ Kmart stores.

And Tom,

I've experimented with many 9004 bulbs; Phillips BV, Sylvania CoolBlues, XtraVision, SilverStars, and stock bulbs. All seem to pretty much suck. Maybe you've just been so used to HIDs that regular bulbs seem like no light at all now.

Yeah, I agree. I've been trying all different kinds of inexpensive bulbs (GE, Sylvania, etc...) at $5-$7 bucks apiece to try and find some that I like without spending the cheddar for PIAA's. I'll say this, of all of them, the Sylvania CoolBlues worked the best for me. The light field they produced seemed a lot whiter and a lot larger than the other "cheap" bulbs. Unfortunately, for me they only seem to last about 3 or 4 months (but, then again, I ALWAYS keep my headlights on when I'm driving). I'm about to break down and replace everything with PIAA though. Maybe I'll be lucky enough for them to last three years too!

i have some no name 110/100 with slight blue tint (looks white) bulbs that worked surprisingly well for 8$ a pair. perhaps i was lucky. i discarded of the packaging but it was a blue carton, each bulb came individually wrapped. i suppose it's a bit of luck to find a good cheapo bulb.
