What are some things that can be used to get rid of squeaks and rattles?

For being a 1995, my car really doesn't squeak that bad, but I thought I'd check to see what you guys used to get rid of those annoying squeaks and rattles.
I've been using some thin felt tape for some of my dash squeaks, but are there better products that I could be using? Five years ago or so, I remember reading an article out of Motor Trend about a product that can be sprayed or applied onto opposing interior dash parts that is somewhat like a tar/rubbery substance that helps to absorb squeaks and rattles--anyone know what this is? It was supposed to be made by GM, I believe. Also, other than felt tape, what do you guys use to get rid of those annoying sounds?

I've used a Dynamat clone material on the inside of the map pockets on my doors - they are a hard plastic that tend to resonate and buzz.
I also found that the courtesy light on my passenger door was making noise. I had to bend springs and apply tape so that it would fit more snugly.

it all depends on exactly what's making the noise..
if it's stuff with large, open gaps behind it that can't be seen, I've used expanding spray foam (like you use to seal around pipes) with good results.
also simply gluing stuff down or squeezing a little silicone caulk in some spots has helped.
felt tape does great in tight spots or where press-fit panels are attached..
also might try some open-cell foam behind the panels if you can get it to fit.
each rattle is a kinda new problem, as you have to find out what's making the noise and what best to use to stop it.. just be creative.

Three things I use where ever they are needed:
Generic Dynamat
One inch wide by one quarter inch thick foam tape that is used around a truck bed rail when you put a camper top on.
The black gooey stuff that comes in a windshield installation kit.
