I have to interject here, some people work for a very long time by the time they buy a Corvette. It has a very rich history. I knew a 53 year-old dude whose dream came true when he finally saw his last of 3 daughters graduate from college and he bought himself one. If you can't tolerate it, I don't know what gives. imho a person needs a sense of accomplishment in order to appreciate the finer things in life. If they come too easy then all they do sometimes is want what's on the other side of the fence.
Hehe it wasnt THAT expensive. I got a good deal on it used. I looked high and low. It is also winter season, so the price is even lower cause demand is less. I paid $24K for it. Most people thought it was a pretty good deal, but others still felt I coulda gotten a lower mileage car. If you know anybody with a new Maxima, WRX, Accord etc its in the same price range. So if you can afford one of those you can afford one of these, of course alot of people take into consideration that there are no rear seats etc.

There are sacrifices that have to be made when driving a car like this. I realized this when I made the choice. I'm merely pointing those out considering I've been driving front wheel drive japanese family sedans for all my life. Of course the things that come with japanese family sedans are- refinement and reliablity (I suppose) and good gas milage. So I'm still in the transition period. Its quite a change. On the flip side for those of you who were used to muscle cars before and then went to foreign family sedans, I'm sure you had to do quite a bit of tolerating too.

but you got have admit, your pretty damn lucky to be able to afford a Corvette at your age (your in your 20s right?). Not many people can attest to that. As long as you appreciate it, its all good.

btw do you have snow where you live? if so, do you drive the 'Vette in the snow?

As for the throw-out bearing, I think its going on my car, and I wanted to know how hard it was to replace.

As for the cupholder issue, atleast you have FRIGGEN cupholders, I don't! I just tell myself that real sports cars don't have cupholders!

As for the warranty I knocked on wood and crossed my fingers, I got it from a private guy for a pretty good price. So far in the first 3 hours I've had it, I've broken the X pipe from just driving and the targa top leaks at the seams cause it was pouring down rain. That and the tires are expensive as freakin *****.

As for Camaro SS, I never really liked those cars, I like quick cars but I also like luxury and refinment. The camaro's interiors are very crude and rattly, that and non-independent rear live axle, and it is MORE to insure a SS then the Corvette (hows that one? hehe). The Corvette also has many more luxury features such as memory seats, an extensive computer display readout, the gauges are awesome, sports seats are much better then the Camaros. It also handles a ton better. But you are correct, I will be quite out of the "typical corvette driver" as I'm a tiny asian kid not some balding 50 year old white man with silver hair hahaha. Yeah so I went from one old person's car to another
I AM NOT BALDING !

You will see that there are a fair number older guys with mega mods. Younger guys too. You can get to 500 rwhp for about $15k but as you have seen the tires and consumables will keep you busy.
Seriously be careful. You can hurt yourself and others.

Good choice Eric! There are tons of mods out for the C5. Look into exhausts first to get the car to sound right. My friend has a 01' with Borla Stingers and it sounds amazing. Lastly, be safe man!! Driving a RWD car with that kind of power is a lot more difficult than you are used to. When I drove my friends Z06 I was kind of not expecting the rear end to break loose during the 2-3 shift.

Well, just count your blessings and realize that you have a nice car. Have fun with it and be careful with all that HP!!

I washed my car today in the freezing weather. I've included a dash shot, but the camera doesnt do justice. THe dash shot the guages are actually layered and at night they light up a cool blue (not the yucky yellow amber found on the poontiacs).

Sweet looking car man. You're right about the leather looking like vinyl. The Camaro's leather looks even worse.
Otherwise I like everything about them. Would definitely get the extended warranty though. Some chrome five spokes would look great too!

I hear the run-flats on the Corvette aren't that great. Even switching to Kumho most Corvette owners noticed a difference in ride and handling. Kumho is probably the cheapest tire anyway. Let us know what mods you do and be sure to videotape some street races

i'm so jealous right now its not even funny. Its strange how such a powerful car has such a similar rpm to ours, even a little weaker. Ours is in danger zone at 6.5 rpm and this one is at 6. I doubt that makes a difference cause it probably takes longer to get to 6 on this beast . Dam...M5 or a corvette...u making me think REAL HARD bro

I still think your parents are crazy for helping you get the C5 at your age and like Frank said, you'll have to set your sights pretty high for your next car.

Like you said, buying these types of cars in the winter is a good choice because of low resale, but I'll tell you that in the snow, these cars are flat out scary, especially when coming down hills are such.

I did have to make some adjustments when going from a Z28 to my Maxima, but overall I'm much happier with this car. The Maxima does a lot of things better than the Z28 ever could. The only real advantages of the Z28 was acceleration (mid 13s vs mid 14s), better brakes, and a better seat position. I know the C5 is two classes ahead of the Z28 in all areas and I'm sure it's a better car. Be safe and have fun.
