CAI + Flood = nono

Just a Reminder for all of you with CAIs. Stay out of water!!!
I underestimated the depth of water flooded in the streets last night and killed my engine!!! My poor max is going under the knife this afternoon and getting a new engine. Very Costly!!! Just wanted to remind everyone to be safe.

You are the second Maxima I've heard of this happening to. Sorry, and I hope everything goes well! Maybe it's time to plug up that hole and use a hybrid, just to be on the safe side.

Sorry to hear that. Is your insurance covering the repairs?

Hybrids sound like poop compared to CAI's, produce less low end torque, and CAI's look A LOT better.

but yea hydrolockin' is a good arguement.

If you pull the plugs on your car, will that let the cylinders dry out enough for you to start it again? I heard that could relieve hydrolock, but I've never done it, so I wouldn't know.

Wouldn't a breather filter work??

IF you have the CAI, drill a small hole somewhere in the upper section up by the engine, and install a breather filter in that hole. I would think that with that it would be very hard for your engine to pull water up. Think about trying to suck water up through a straw with even a small hole in it. Try it if you don't know what I'm talking about. That's pretty much what the AEM bypass valve does.

That is a good idea. A small breather filter infront of the maf would greatly decrease the chance of hydrolock. I'll give it a try and hope I never have to test it again .

what do you mean no room? I can drill about 10 holes and weld on tubes for breather filters on the lower tube if I wanted to.

This happened to my friend's Probe. The one connecting rod ended up with a 15-degree bend in it. No pulling the spark plugs for him.

im thinking about getting the valve, although drilling a small hole and filling it with a filter would be a good idea. my friend hydrolocked his delsol, but came out of it with a vtec integra LS engine that insurance paid for, lucky huh?

i honestly think a hybrid with a good filter (stillen or JWT) is the best intake u can go for...plus its the safest...
