CAI + Flood = nono
CAI + Flood = nono
Just a Reminder for all of you with CAIs. Stay out of water!!!
I underestimated the depth of water flooded in the streets last night and killed my engine!!! My poor max is going under the knife this afternoon and getting a new engine. Very Costly!!! Just wanted to remind everyone to be safe.

You are the second Maxima I've heard of this happening to. Sorry, and I hope everything goes well! Maybe it's time to plug up that hole and use a hybrid, just to be on the safe side.

Wouldn't a breather filter work??
IF you have the CAI, drill a small hole somewhere in the upper section up by the engine, and install a breather filter in that hole. I would think that with that it would be very hard for your engine to pull water up. Think about trying to suck water up through a straw with even a small hole in it. Try it if you don't know what I'm talking about. That's pretty much what the AEM bypass valve does.
Re: Wouldn't a breather filter work??
That is a good idea. A small breather filter infront of the maf would greatly decrease the chance of hydrolock. I'll give it a try and hope I never have to test it

chances are.. if your car goes into water deep enought to hydro lock the engine.. nothing short of a stock air box is going to save you.. i think russ went in some Deep deep water
im thinking about getting the valve, although drilling a small hole and filling it with a filter would be a good idea. my friend hydrolocked his delsol, but came out of it with a vtec integra LS engine that insurance paid for, lucky huh?
