Looks like tiime for another transplant or new car

so looks like TurboMax might be needing another motor transplant. At first it was making some loud tapping noise, then today it started hesitating and felt like a misfire. According to some diagnostic we've done so far, its a bad valve spring. ill find out tomorrow when i do a leakdown. IM so sick of this sheit but i brought it upon myself for modding the car or building the motor....ugh

to make you feel better i had to change my engine too. the head was wasted (big time) and you couldn't really tell when you were test driving the car (one of those hidden internal problems if you want to call it that). my fault for buying a yet another '95 car. never again. ever.

so now i am afraid to do anything to that engine except the 2 most common mods. but might remove the intake because of water issues.

broken broken broken... Been a long day huh?! Hopefully tommrow you'll find out. It was pretty fun taking apart your car tho! Anywho....i think you should just do a Vq30...with the 3.5L block...and build it up over time...while using a stock motor..... Hrm..well theres still no gas in that #4 cylinder...bad valve spring or not....wonder whats up with that?!? Jus call me if you need an extra hand.

Hope your luck changes soon! with the plasma comming..

it seems like no matter what you get into, if it is custom you will have issues.. i have blown 3, count them, 3 sets of rear cylinders on my car already, and only one of them was entirely my fault.

problems come with the territory, don't let it get you down matthel, you have a one of the nicest cars around, and you sure as hell have set a standard.

good luck on whatever you do.

does this suggest that the Turbo on the maxima causes problems, (engine can't handle the power) or is this something completely different?

Sorry about your loss, man. My SC eats drive axles like they're Cheetos.

Any automotive or powertrain engineering team will design and test their engines to perform well and RELIABLY as they are shipped from the factory. You can still squeeze more performance out of them with standard bolt-on's, though.

But once you start to significantly modify the engine away from stock form, YOU BECOME THE ENGINEER.

You need to have the tools to diagnose problems, and the knowledge to ensure that the engine is still running well and not on its way to an early grave. Even if you have all of that though, that STILL does not guarantee that your project is going to be successful.

You still have no idea of the critical tolerances of ANY of the parts in the drivetrain or engine. How hard can you push it before an axle snaps? How hard can you push it and still maintain reliabillity. How much will the MTBF drop by increasing power by 75%?

Nissan engineers know all of this, whereas people like us do not. And when Nissan engineers break something, you just get another one from the parts bin and replace it because it's all R&D expense. Part of designing things is breaking them to figure out where the tolerances really are. When you're a person at Maxima.org, your R&D budget for replacing broken parts is your own wallet

These are all things to understand when seriously modifying a car.

i thought about doint a VQ35 swap and using stock VQ30 heads but right now its too big of a project cause im trying to get another bike by April or May. We'll see, if i do have to replace the motor, itll definetely be a stock motor for now.
