I need your help beating a GTP

As you can tell I am new to this board but have been hanging around since I got my BEAUTIFUL Maxima on Christmas Eve. I have never been happier with a car! Even my husband is jealous and swears he will never buy another American car!

Here is the issue, he wants me to take it racing this April at NED (New England Dragway) but my car is stock and his Pontiac Grand Prix GTP is not. Do I have ANY chance at beating his car at the track?

Here is a list of some of his mods:
Thrasher Cold-Air Intake, RT Downpipe/cat, Borla cat-back exhaust, DH PCM, 3.0/3.2/3.4" Tri-Collet Interchangeable Supercharger Pulley, Impala Police Package Rear Sway Bar.

His track time: 13.798@99.08mph

So if I can't beat him now (stock) what can I do between now and then to kick a little a$$?

Thanks for you help!

1. buy a shovel
2. goto the track
3. line up with him
4. when no one is looking go over to his car and hit him in the head with the shovel
5. when the light hits green, drive fast as hell
6. the race is YOURS!!!!! you win and you get all his chicks, fame and glory!!!

or you could buy a turbo kit or an supercharger and up the boost

good plan
the 6 speeds will run low 14s stock, high 13s with moodddss! emax and i think srden(sp) have run 13 one all motor and one with nos, and there is an auto in the high 13s i think blubyu2k2 is the name. Its gonna take you some work and time to beat him.

Now is the time to say "Hey! If you can mod your GTP I can do the same!" and drop lots & lots of hints about getting a supercharger!

Do some intake work, get an underdrive pulley, and get some lightweight 16s with drag tires. NED is a pretty quick track so I'd think your Maxima would be quick there too. I would be surprised that in STOCK form, your Maxima will be posting nearly the same MPHs as your husbands modded GTP. His advantage is the ability to get off the line with absolutely no bogging.

This is what I would do. Tell him you'll run stock "if" he only runs the 3.2" pulley, NO icing the intake, NO race gas, NO headlight removed. See what he has to say to that. He knows and I know that a 3.0 pulley on 92 octane is a big no-no and even the 3.2 is pushing it. What I'm saying is, make him run you like he runs on the street. See what he has to say to this.

100-120 shot of Nitrous will do the trick.

If he runs the 3.0 pulley, you're gonna need a bottle.

Honestly he should be running faster than the time he mentioned with the smaller pulley. His mods could provide low 13's.

If you were in the SE, I would race you stock, then you could win.

Won't be stock long though.

Last winter we had a 97 Maxima SE 5 speed and a 95 Taurus SHO 5 speed.

My wife and I ran several times at Steele, she was able to get within 3-4/10ths of my time.

The Max ran a best 14.7@92-93 stock with me driving, 15.0 with her driving.

The SHO could run a little quicker, with horrible 60 ft. times, but a much higher 97-98 trap speed stock.

The GTP we have now has traction problems with the TCS on, I can't imagine what its like with those mods!

Guess drag radials or slicks are a must, or a second gear launch.

You might want to get a 100 shot or so and drive real well.

Sorry, you won't beat him unless you're running juice or boost : even if he just uses the 3.4 pulley you're gone...

Probably not as good as his since he has more practice at it.

So I guess my only hope is to either supercharge my car or disable his. It doesn't inspire too much confidence. I was hoping it would at least be a close race. Good thing I didn't make a bet with him...I would be paying that one off for quite some time.

Now if only I could convince him to pay for the supercharger...any suggestions?

get an hybrid intake from Frankencar, take out your seats and some other stuff, and get drag slicks. if you do this and get to be a good driver, and he uses the 3.4 pulley you could win.....i hope.

Take a trip to Victoria Secret.... that should inspire him to fork out the dough. It always works for me.

if a auto 2k2 can run a 13.9 with just drag radials and a pulley ,a 6speed with at least the same set up and driver skill should be all you need, just get plenty of practice before april

that time ran by blue is not an everyday thing. its doubtful she will beat him while hes running his smallest pulley, 13.7 is still 10th faster than emax and hes got quite a few mods and amazing driving skills. although if hes not running the smallest pulley, he prolly only good for a 14.2-14.4 which can be easily achieved with a 2k2 6speed, all you need is intake, ypipe and good driving skills and u may break into very high 13's which in this case would be good enough for a win, (i think what most are saying, is u cant beat him without boost if hes running smallest pulling, but if he runs less boost [bigger pulley] you have a d*mn good chance. even stock it will be a decint race)

Back to topic; practice shifting, practice launching, practice your reaction, get an intake (WAI), get a ypipe (don't know if any are out for you), run near empty, take out your spare in trunk, take out floormats, take out passenger and rear seats, run two spares in the back, run two drags in the front with light rims, don't run with an heat soaked engine and practice some more. Hope this helps

like dave said , you don't need nitrous or a supercharger unless you really want to make him look bad
