Quaife is installation almost done:) Eric D Wong Thanks for the information

I got the quaife in the mail today and I opened the transmission took Eric Wongs short cut and slipped out the stock differential (hope thats whats it called) in five minutes. The hardest part was hammering the bearings on the quaife itself. Lucky I found a good solution for it. Thanks to my 14 yr old brother<---(Jedi in training) for his help with out his help I would have never got it done in two hours. My opinion on the installation itself, not hard at all. I did get some facts from Mardigrasmax and it was not hard as he stated, thanks Matt for the help once again and Delio for his awesome strong opinions.

Sprintmax thanks for the pointing me to the right place to get my somewhat new 23K mile transmission I appreciate that.

Eric Wong I know you dont post that much, but all that information you posted regarding parts and short cuts helped a ton. Thanks alot for helping out by posting that and God bless you and enjoy that corvette.

I will have pics up and show you guys the short route to installion. Right now I am somewhat burnt out. Standby for pics tomorrow.

One question though I put the tranny back together to take the measurement but theres no play on the bearing part I didnt torque down the 12MM bolt yet, but I am still wondering will I still need shims? I am just awaiting for the tool in the mail to complete the project. They have the tool at Napa for $175.00. Thats the only thing holding me up.

I am going to lie to you it was not that hard if you have another person helping/guiding the tranny itself out while the other pilots the jack. I have 5 tranny drops under my belt now I feel comfortable dropping them now . If you need help just let me know Ill send you my home number. I ll be home saturday morning. I also did not drop the center beam, I used the gear wrench to get to those I think they are 14 or 12MM bolts and wrenched them out. Ill post the pics up tomorrow evening.

BTW - I think EricDWong's "shortcut" was actually my idea....If I'm right it involves removing the final drive while the diffy is still in the trans.

that was a mistype sorry about that.

Briguy sorry about the shortcut since it was your idea. Either way great idea but it not might work since I dont know how to take the measurement because dont see much play in there. Might have take it apart anyhow.

I wouldn't recommend it, but I removed my tranny and installed it by myself, it's not too hard. Just make sure you have a good breaker bar, a 1 1/2 inch socket, and a good jack with a decent sized baseplate that will lift up all the way. Oh yeah, use jackstands too.

Good sized baseplate? I've always done it w/my 1ton floorjack. circular jack is only 4" diameter. If you're only 1 person, I suggest you undo all the bolts (don't worry, tranny won't fall out cuz there's a lip). Manuver the jack under and have it snug under the tranny. From the top, work the tranny loose and balance onto jack. Then roll the sucka out!

Of course, having 2 people is easier and a huge base plate is a major plus.

cool to know the lsd went well. still waiting to install it in my bro's 2k max.

Hmmm. If there was no play then it is not possible to determine if you have the proper preload. You may have too little or too much. Did you remove the outer bearing races from the transmission case and take out the shims that were there to begin with? Are the inner bearing races fully pressed onto both ends of the differential housing?

No there was two problems I found. One the final gear was stuck and two I did not seat the outer race properly. I freaked out at first thinking to myself man theres no play thats no right. Yesterday prior to taking final measurments I opened the tranny case one last final time and and look everything over and corrected all problems. Amount of play always was at .0240 of an inch. Thanks to Mardigrasmax he looked at the FSM and told me which shims to get.
