For those of you w/lightweight 17's or 18's

Have you noticed a big change in acceleration when switching from your smaller sized stock wheels? My Subzeros' only weigh about a pound and a half more than my stock 15's did (although I know that the weight distribution slows me down a little). My car doesn't feel much slower, plus it is so much easier to launch w/less wheelspin. So do any of you guys still keep your 15's or 16's for the track? I'm just debating whether its worth keeping my stock wheels or not.

Well why not keep em? No sense in getting rid of perfectly good stock wheels.

I always kinda try to keep all my stock stuff and store it away just in case you ever wanna go back

And dang all you people getting Subzero's now

Not to just throw them away, I know I can get a couple hundred bucks if I sell them w/perfectly good tires. I just want to know if anyone has seen a significant difference at the track w/their stock wheels compared to lightweight 17's or 18's.

I went from 20 lb 16s to my 18lb subzeros and I can tell you that I didnt feel any loss in power but I havent really did any acceleration test so Its hard to tell.

I didn't notice anything going from 20LB BBS 17's to 26LB 18" Mille's back down to 12.7LB 17" SSR's. I didn't feel any difference at all and never really track tested all of them.

My 39lb 17" tire/wheel combo (ASA LS5s) actually weighs a 1 lb less than my 15" combo. From an acceleration standpoint, I can tell a marginal difference (slower) with the 17s with the tendency to bog easier. The car feels slightly less responsive at throttle tip-in. The ride is harsher because there is much less sidewall, but once the temps go back above the 50s, nearly all the harshness disappears. I know the 17s are sucking out out power because my overall mpg dropped 2mpg on the highway (23mpg highway vs 25mph). There's just no overcoming the added drag of a tire that has a .70" wider footprint and frontal area. I raced on my 17s last weekend just to see how much they were slowing me down. I ended up pulling a 14.8@94.5mph with an okay 2.27 60' under fairly warm 70 degree weather. I was only about .15 seconds and 3mph off my personal best which was run on my 15s, Stillen B-pipe, HKS intake, less gas, and 20 degree cooler weather.

With all that crap said, I love my 17s. They make the car look so damn good plus they give me significantly better braking and handling. When it comes to drag racing, I'll just swap my 15s on the front to gain back some mph.

To tell you the truth, the 18s have a smoother, softer ride than my 16s. I believe its because of the hard compound BFG g-force tires of my 16s VS. the softer compound of the yokos that are on my 18s. Before with the 16s, going over bumps like a railroad track was sharp jolts and now with the 18s its just thumps over them.

EDIT: 16x7.5 BFG gforce TKWS 225/50/16
18x7.5 Yokohama AVS es100 235/40/18
