Maxima Reliability

I just purchased a 2000 GXE 5spd with 29,500 miles. The car is mint, the service record shows no warranty work, just oil changes. My question is can I count on this car getting to 100,000 miles (probably in ~4 years) without having any problems or should I spend the money on an extended warranty plan ? Given you can't get anything fixed on a car for less then a couple of hundred bucks, spending $1,000 for a warranty doesn't sound like a bad deal.

Opinions & Comments ?
Thanks

I would spend the $1000 on a set of good tires if the car is still on the stock (Im)potenzas.

100K miles is an almost definite, as long as you dont crash - which hopefully wont happen

so if you are buying a used car get the extended, who knows what the car has gone through(my records said the same only oil changes and nothing else).

just because they washed the car doesn't mean it is well under the hood.

don't waste your money

don't buy the extended warranty, there are alot of repairs that could be done for a 1000 bucks, and you should see 120,000 - 150,000 without a major repair..........

Re: Maxima Reliability

I have to disagree with not getting the warranty from experience. In one and a half years of use of my 2000 GXE, I've had it to the dealer about 8 times. The problems were as follows:
Window switch
Stop light Switch
ECU
Brakes Rotors
Ignition Coils(at $180 a pop)

Among other things, I believe my VI is malfunctioning. I have 46K on my car, luckly I have the extended warranty. It has provided me with a rental car on 3 different occasions and is worth the money. Do not get the car without it. It is a first year of a newer model and those tend to be more problemmatic. However, I can say that I love my Maxima and is a lot more reliable than my previous car(a 92 grand am). Unless its a 97-99 which is a more mature model get the extended warranty, it increases resale value and helps you out in the long run.

It sounds like the previous owner of your car may have beat on it. I picked up my 99 5spd with 43k (just off lease) and haven't had so much as a single problem with it. I have 67k on it now after a year. I passed on the extended warranty, but was always a bit leary about buying a used car. Hopefully it'll hold together.

I would say don't buy the warranty. However if you do, make sure it covers the little things not just the major repair items or it is definately not worth the money. Remember you can get a good look at a steak by sticking your head up a bull's a$$, but wouldn't you rather take the butcher's word on it? I have no idea how that ties in, I just wanted to say it.
