will i mess my shocks up if...

i can't afford to buy a new suspension set right now, so i'm considering doing something i read on here. cutting out some rubber spacers and putting them around the shafts of the rear struts. but in doing so i will have to cut away the rubber protecting the shaft... so am i inviting something to get in there and damage the strut? and by the way, this is for track use only, but once the rubber guard is gone, i can't put it back on.

yeah, i do think a tenth or two is worth an hour / hour and a half of work. its not the work i mind... i actually enjoy working on my car when i can spare the time... kind of a release from work and classes. i just don't want to do anything to damage my car... that was the point of my question...

That will only help your launch slightly!

Not worth the trouble and if you do scratch the piston, your SOL.

Save some $$$ and put AGX shocks in the rear, then dial them up nice and stiff on track day.

I'm not so sure you'd really see a big change in your 1/4 times, but I'm no track guru either. There are probably a lot of other things you should be looking at to improve your 1/4 with our cars.

I could not even imagine passing a coil, let alone a strut, shock or RSB!

Jime has spacers he uses for the back springs and he has one of the best, if not THE best launch time for a maxima on the .org .. As far as I know, he didn't cut, or damage anything and I believe it only takes a small amount of time at the track.
