I see that stillen carries an oil cooler kit. I can probably throw one together myself using parts from pep boys for alot cheaper. Is there any point of getting an oil cooler kit to cool the engine oil? I do not have a turbo or supercharger (yet).

It will extend the life of your motor most likely,

Because the cooler the oil=cooler engine and less wear and tear on the motors internals.

It also extends the period between oil change

I remember the first time I changed the oil after the cooler was installed. I'm using Mobil 1 and change usually every 4.5K. When I removed the plug and drain the oil I was pretty surprise of how the oil looked. It look as if the oil was only in there for 2-3.5K. Here's a pic of mine along with my tranny cooler, I had to place mine between the condensor and radiator because of lack of space with the 3rd gen. Besides I'm planning on installing two auxillary fans in front of condensor to help cool down things since the coolers were added, later

An oil cooler certainly won't hurt, unless it's installed badly. Not only does the oil run cooler but you add about a quart of capacity to the system. Two caveats - in cold weather you should block it if no thermostat in the system and make sure the lines are big enough (1/2" id is usually good enough.). Almost anything is cheaper than Stillen, if you can find or make it!!!

they sell it for $110. I'm thinking about getting one myself. Better yet, they sell one for my 89 mazda 626 for $40.

2 things to note

1) Adding a extra quart or two of oil at oil changes.
2) After thousands of miles INSPECT the HOSES!!!!
At around 200k miles one of the hoses on my RX-7 suffered a puncture, luckily I just got home and smelled the oil on the ground and had to clean up the nasty spill. I left a track of the oil up to 5 blocks away.

hey

Ive wanted to get an oil cooler for awhile. Stillen's is too expensive. The brackets are designed to be mounted at the bottom of the radiator but my intercooler is there. let me know if you do put one together...thanks
