Fuel Pressure Regulator Problem?

I have an 85 Maxima and lately it has been losing alot of engine power. Yesterday, I unplugged the vacuum hose going to the FPR, and the car is running alot better. Not as good as I think it should be, but better than before. Can anyone tell me what this means? Do I need a new FPR?

Thanks for any insight.

You need a pressure gauge to tell whats really going on. By removing the vacuum you are simulating running at WOT which should be 43 psi vs 34 for idle.

You are really running blind unless you check the pressure and go from there.

PS Just noticed you said 85 Maxima? If so then I am not sure if the pressures are the same. Regardless, the removal of the vacuum line will increase the fuel pressure.
