Put 5-30 synthetic, in TRANNY?

Uh... dooder? You have spend mega buckaros on a turbo system. Please just be prudent and use TRANNY fluid in your TRANNY. Tranny fluid typically has more detergents than normal oil. Plus the viscocity requirements could be different etc...
I'd use the Amsoil series of tranny fluids myself.

Just use tranny fluid in your tranny. Period. I don't trust 3/4 of what people say. If you want to do that, go ahead. But don't say I didn't warn you
Amsoil and Mobil 1 all have gl4 specified tranny oil. Mobil gear oil is pretty widely available. Amsoil is not as available but if you have a G.I. Joes in your area. Or contact one of the distributors here on the .org. IWANNABMW or something.

Both Amsoil and Redline have gl4 only gear lubes available. Some gl2-gl5 gear lubes are safe to use as well.

Manual transmision fluid contains thickening agents to allow the oil to "stick" to components better...keeps the oil from flinging off gears, basically making it appear to be "gummy" so to speak. Although the actual viscosity of a 30W motor oil may be just slightly less than a 90W gear oil, it's these thickening agents that make gear oil quite a bit different. Jeff mentioned different levels of detergents, which is also the case, as well as different levels of extreme wear protectants.
The stuff is quite a bit different than motor oil and you are better off using gear oil in your transmission. Premature failure is a very likely possibility otherwise. These Honda folks that talk about using 30W motor oil in their trannies may indeed experience smoother shifts but they are not telling you about, and indeed are likely ignorant about the horrible damage that is occuring inside their transmissions. Also, considering the already poor reliability of the Nissan Maxima manual transmission we have, there is no way you should take a chance at potentially hurting it more than it already does to itself.

Keven97se: Those same EP additives that are to our advantage in a Nissan, will kill a Honda transmission, which is why they use motor oil. It's similar to using a conventional GL5 lube in the Maxima. Those additives will attack the softer metals and cause problems, particularly synchro related, later on down the road.

go to the royal purple website and see if they have any places nearby if not go the redline website and see if they have any places nearby as well. Napa Also has the GL4 with a aqua green label that they sell so check them out. Dont use motor oil the GL4 fluid is just much much thicker and it has additives in it etc..

My mistake, sorry I offended you. Seriously, I had no idea Honda recommended 30W in their trannies. Definitely a surprise. I'll perform a complete market analysis next time before I post.

My 5 speed Prelude had 170,000 miles on it when I finaly sold it. The tranny was still tight as a German girl, thanks to Castrol 10W-30 MOTOR OIL.
