DYNO COMPARISON: Battle of the Maxima 3.0's: 3rd Gen vs 4th Gen vs 5th Gen
My latest dyno comparison article will take a look at the 3.0 Maxima SE's from 1992 through 2001 and pit them all against each other. This is a new way of looking at an old debate that never quite seems to die around here. ![Smilie](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The format will be a bit different this time however, as Kevin has given me the opportunity to make these a little more professional by offering to host them in the Shop Talk section of the main page. This should be a nice improvement since HTML is a bit more versatile than vbulletin code is. Thanks, Kev!![Big Grin](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Anyhow, here is the link to the article...

Steve,
You seem to stress that wheel weight has a significant impact on how fast the car is. My 18x8.5's are 24lbs. each. However, I am also boosting 8lbs. of boost through my Vortech V1. It is my understanding that the more power/torque you have, the less and less important wheel weights are. For example, Comparing a '96 Mustang GT 5spd to a 2000 Civic Si 5spd; while the Mustang would probubly just edge out the civic in the quarter mile, it has a lot more HP and like 160lb-ft more torque. Wheel weight would have significantly less impact on the mustang then the civic, right?

My only observation is that aerodynamics were left out of the comparison. Surely someone has access to a wind tunnel.

That's why heavy wheels kill Civics and don't affect us as much. Also, heavier wheels on high power cars aren't always a bad thing because usually they have wider tires to get the power to the ground. Thus, as with everything the article is a generalization that doesn't and can't really take every variable into consideration.

NICE ![ThumbsUp](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
After reading that article, those SSR competions in 17" weighing in at 13 lbs each are looking much much much much more attractive despite their higher price. Especially to the 5th gen 17 OEM guys.
I was always one not to spend more than $150 per rim on wheels. I think I'm gonna spend more now![Smilie](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I will take you out on the twisties
![Smilie](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Give me time and I will have you on the flats...
I know it will never stop, it is fun...cause, I know what is up, I could afford a newer max, but prefer my 3rd gen, just more fun and I have driven many different max's.
