turtle wax makes two kind of compound: rubbing compound and polishing compound. what are the different? can i use the polishing compound as a polish or i need to use a real polish??

The rubbing compound is very abrasive IMO. Polishing compound is a bit less abrasive. I used the polishing compound on a dark brown '71 Benz. It tool off good amount of paint. Looked good after waxing, but I don't think it had clear coat.

Personally, I wouldn't use either on the clear coat of my Max.

Mother's 3 step process is the best! I bought my Max this winter so haven't had a chance to use it yet, but on my old Malibu it brought the factory paint back to life then after repainting her kept the new enamel paint looking shiny and wet... Everyone always thought i JUST had it painted....

I used to buy turtle wax religiously, but after trying Mothers once, I switched over imediately. It's easier to both apply and remove, and the results are simply stunning.

Yes. Just make sure you use a line that specifies "clear coat safe". Turtle wax has some, as do many of Car Care names.

Rubbing Compound and Polishing Compounds are for taking scratches out of the paint or similar applications. They are not used for getting a deep shine as a wax does. For a wax I use Eagle One. I am going to try the zaino waxes since I have heard they are the absolute best. For info on Zaino:
