Racing Straight Pipes vs. Cat Converters

I recently added a warpspeed y and b pipe, and a magnaflow street series muffler. question: What are your opinions on adding a High-Flow Catalytic Converters in place of the old stock one. Anyone out there who has done this have an opinion. Any ideas and thoughts will be appreciated...

Message Continued:

The Racing Straight Pipe sounds like a good mod ?!! Can I get some feedback from anyone who has installed one ? Who else makes the racing straight pipe and which one has the best reputation ?

How flow CATS suck. They are no better than factory CATS. Seriously save your money. If you want some real performance gains then add a racing pipe instead. They cost a lot less $ than 'hi-flow' CATS.

No. What I mean is replace your existing CAT with a straight pipe aka 'racing pipe'. Click HERE to have a look.

I'll get on my soap box again. Negative effects, how about failing emisssions testing? How about killing the ozone? How about making the air worse for your kids? Don't do it. I hope you listen to me and don't go with a straight pipe for street use. I think threads asking about straight pipes for street use should be locked.

i agree, the hp increase from a test pipe doesnt warrent the negative pollution output. the cat is there for a reason, let it do its job, save our air. i just convinced my friend to put his cat back on his eclips and he says his car sounds better and doesnt smell bad now that his cat is back on.
oh well...

Threads about test pipes are worse than street racing threads. If someone were to street race, they can finish the race and usually nobody gets hurt. Using a test pipe kills people everyday. On a hot summer day, you could kill someone with asthma! You're killing someone everyday you drive your car. All for what? 2 or 3 hp on a NA car? Get a real power adder. Don't cheap out. Run the test pipe at the track only. I don't even think that's such a good idea. Leave your cats on. Deal with it. Get a highflow cat as a compromise.

Do you test pipe people also throw garbage out your window? Pour used motor oil in the sewage?

well i'm boosted, im gettin more than 2 hp... but i think bang for the buck, i did well, 35 shipped for a warpspeed test pipe. Exhaust is deeper, and throttle response is better.

High flow cats suck! They don't give any extra HP and most of them like Random Tech fall apart within a couple of years. I've had my Random Tech for less than a year and it just failed. Stay with the stock cat.

The test pipe is very loud. It's a choice, but really it shows not too much HP gains N/A. I have an RT, and didn't notice any change from the stock one.

Stick with the stocker or RT. It doesn't pay to run a straight pipe unless you want to play and be really loud or want to run at the track IMO.
